It is another American marketing ploy brought over to the U.K.
ASDA ( Walmart ) put a few flat screen tellies near the front door, and when the doors are opened a scrum ensues as there are not enough for the mob to have one each.
If you want to have a scrum with blacks join the que.
Order online, wait 45 minutes and still you cannot get into the web page as millions of other sad tossers are hunting for bargains of shit.
    Blacks shopping day.

Believe it or not we went to the Tesco Lotus in Chiang Kong yesterday. Absolute pandemonium.
They advertised some white goods that would be sold at cut down prices at 12.00 noon.
We got there at 11.00 and it was chaos. The white goods were right at the front store, directly behind the check outs. Nobody could move. Any sense of civility or politeness was gone, just maniacal pushing and shoving.
    Horrible, but obviously planned.
Whilst the staff were freaking I spotted the Manager standing back and smiling.

    Horrible.

Who are you upset with? The UK retailers who stole the idea or the American retailers who started it to capture sales from the throngs of shoppers who are in the stores on the day after Thanksgiving.

Maybe it would have worked out better if you adopted Thanksgiving too.
I do feel bad for you though. A single tear.

Yeah, I agree. Dehumanized might be another word, and its at every level of society; I see no better future ahead...

Is that the holiday where you fukin lunatics give praise to God for finding a new land, or the one when some Brits and assorted others (now using a new name) get a hard on over fighting and beating some other Brits and assorted others (still using the old name)?

Though, to be fair, Thanksgiving does come with turkey so I'd be up for that whatever its fantasy base.
How do I post these pictures???

Truthfully, Black Friday (I hate that name) just evolved over the years into the frantic consumer riot that get's portrayed in the media. Nobody but stupid people shop on the Friday after Thanksgiving. It's insane.
No matter what country you are from, retail management is obsessed with finding ways to beat last years numbers. It is life or death. The entire profit for the year is made from mid-November until New Years.

This Black Friday lark does seem to be symbolic of the insanity of consumerism; we are de-evolving and in desperate need of a new renaissance.

Actually it's called black Friday because that's the one day of the year the slaves were free to go shopping without the massa along.

Yeah maybe but a vibrant retail economy keeps us all in jobs. We can't all be stringing beads and living in communes can we?

These orgies of consumerism are disgusting, but quite honestly have no impact upon anyone other than those who choose to indulge.

If full on combat to save $20 bucks on some trinket is their thing, have at it folks.

Yesterday was Sunday...the last day of the month after Friday's (payday) and the payment of the 13th month salary. The malls here - always crowded - were mob scenes.

Smart folks just avoided the malls and areas around them.

    Simple really....just don't indulge.
