Smile Tweaking Thailand what would you like to alter

As I'm more content here than most places its only the minor stuff.

Sad to see so many of all ages inc cops without crash helmets,I know they wont be told.I forget sometimes on nip to the 7, in hot poor Malaysia everyone seems to wear guess they really enforce? Plan give all one free, anyone without cops can sieze bike to pay hospitals for wards full of idiots.

90 day reports via ATM or online ,sure it'll need a programme so go on most will fork it a few bucks say .If it can scan a bankbook surely it can scan a passport like the machines at Airports.

The whole country is full of old drivers spending time and money outside Thailand for zero benefit to Thailand.I enjoy odd holiday to Malaya Laos Oz etc but for some travel is a pain if pets, sick, disabled, poor, kids in tow etc

Speaker vans, despite boom town we seem to get less of the blaring mattress and ladder touts with deafening speakers perhaps they're rented out for an election elsewhere.

Soap in bathrooms,I'd be happy to pay a baht for squirt,of course you can remember moist wipes for rd trips but surprise me how while many mom and pop stores let you use the under the stairs John and use their family soap many restaurants bars fall down,If its fixed to the wall must cost pennies

    How would you tweak Thailand.

While no expert my main suggestion for national happiness would be better driving skills, working lights, explain how its dangerous to drive wrong way up highway unlit at night with 2 families without seat belts in an uninsured clapped out pick up..Darwin at work

    Off to the races

I'd change the orientation through 180 degrees so I could enjoy the seasonal changes in the weather.

an off tropical poit has been removed.....

Yeah I know what you mean ,however we do have different times up North

Basically from Now Warm days cool nights down to freezing in the hills around 18 here
Wet Songkhran which is remarkably close to start of the rains,I gues theOceans are the motor
When first came in last century seldom any serious useful rains after September, but we have had a few October and November drenchings not sure why.El Nino climate change or just freak?

Great think from Mae Hong Song to steamy beaches where the low life huddle its never cold enough to need whisky ,so one can sup for the sheer joy

You could always try shifting yourself during the year (far easier than altering the planet's geography IMO lol), or relocating to southern Japan.

    My pet peeves;

Vermin and pollution. FFS - clean up your act.

My Number One: Need a nationwide program to eradicate the resident cockroach population. Then lets get the rats.

Noise pollution - really the individuals own fault. Choose your residence carefully. But as the OP david44 lists - those speaker vans are the nations leading cause of deafness. Not to mention, but I'll mention it here, 500 motorcycles accelerating full speed from a dead stop when the light changes, also add in the massive cloud of blue smoke they leave behind.

olfactory pollution - stench beyond belief. Clean up the garbage.

Traffic - noise, smoke, jams, diversions, detours, not really a pet peeve specific to Bangkok - just about every major metropolis has similar problems/complaints but Bangkok is up there in the top ten list. Of course I'll also mention the national pastime of driver pedestrian chicken - zebra crossing - for show only. Drivers are in an awful hurry to get to wait at the next red light. Hurry up and wait syndrome.

Moving the country through 180 degrees is easier and cheaper for me. If the General can fuck people around on a whim, why shouldn't I?
It could also solve many problems. You just don't know until you try.
Japan is full of old people and nuclear waste. No thanks.

I would suggest a traffic ordnance that states that if you are riding without a helmet and/or lights and/or the wrong way then you are in the act of committing a crime and so forfeit any right to compensation should you be involved in any sort of traffic incident no matter what other factors may be in play.

Basically if you can't be bothered to wear a helmet or use even the minimum of self-preservation instincts then you are up shit creek without a paddle if you get run over.

That's my pet peeve. If somebody clearly doesn't give a shit about the safety of themselves or their kids then why the hell should I be expected to care?

Conversely, if you have a hemet on, your bike is reasonably well maintained and not overloaded and you are driving along carefully and some idiot in a car slams into you then the car driver gets the book thrown at them - no more 'might is right' mentality to screw over those who can't afford or don't want to use a car.

    Here endeth the lesson.

Excellent entirely agree, could have zero cost, the drawback is the corruption in enforcement,Red BS boys free to drive off ,local punter gives cop enough for shag/drink all sorted,no long time consequence of potential ftal action harking back to a society based o bullocks

    Easy question that one.

    Firstly,

I would like to see all farang who post up shit political comments and who think they are Politicians or experts in Thai politics deported back to their birth country and black banned from entering Thailand ever again.

    Secondly,

I would like to see all farang who hold negative views about the Thai population and Thailand in general arsed out of Thailand back to their birth country and refused entry from ever setting foot in Thailand again.

This way us retirees and visitors could be free from the negative influence of these complete group of wankers.

    Fair enough that innit.

Probably easier to avoid or ignore them.

Only because most of us are such lazy fookers I would propose one tweak...
Roman alphabet and English language (or is that two tweaks).

That way we lazy fookers would have a half-way shot of knowing what is going on behind our backs and in front of our eyes in a country that we have for whatever reason chosen to relocate.

Would most of us stop complaining ? ...probably not.

Personally, after a few years of knowing what is really going on I would rather be return to being 'in the blind'...thereby requiring one more tweak (or would that be two ?)

I would tweak the weather so it was November - December all year round.

Gotta laugh at pretentious falangs wishing for less falangs. Sounds like backpackers who follow other backpackers then whinge when even more follow.

Issued in a fkn downstairs venue or at my baan.
I'll probably only need one ...

I came to Asia because it has palm trees, sunshine and is different.

So I simply either enjoy or ignore the differences.

I really don't care about their incessant whining. (The ones who would complain about the taxes they paid when they hit the big lottery). Never happy - they bark about anything and everything. They camouflage any valid complaint in their constant crying. My thoughts are - if life in Thailand is so difficult and they are so miserable, Just why do they stay? Let them do themselves a favor - Go Home.

You can buy 4 tins of Heinz beans in the UK for a quid (50 baht.)

How comes, they're about 60 baht a tin here?

Have thought about this many times, but Japan is too expensive a place to spend the Thai hot season. Maybe China or Taiwan?
