My own fave(s) is a double-act "Laurel & Hardy". Their timing could not be beaten.

Agreed. I too don't much care for the Jim Carrey, Leslie Neilson, Steve Martin type of slapstick.

Cleese was great. Also Mr. Bean, Rowan Atkinson.

Rowan Atkinson gets away with it because of Blackadder. A lot of that show was down to the scripts as well as the great comedy actors.

I would add a couple of Brit actresses to the list. Miranda Richardson for Blackadder and Julie Walters for just about everything she evr did.

I always thought Mr. Bean was completely slapstick ie. physical. Certainly not verbal.

I loved Richard Pryor & Gene Wilder in "See no evil, hear no evil" when I was a kid. Probably hasn't stood the test of time though.
