Best Comic Actors/Performances of All Time

My nominee is Peter Sellers as Clare Quilty in Lolita. Brilliant.

    ^Also brilliant in "Dr Strangelove".

My own fave(s) is a double-act "Laurel & Hardy". Their timing could not be beaten.

It's silent. It's black and white. It's brilliant. Buster Keaton in "The General", 1926.

Harvey Korman was great in 'Blazing Saddles', as was Slim Pickens:

Peter Sellers best comedic performance ever was Clouseau, followed by Chance.

I must have an unusual sense of humour. I find the pratfall, custard pie stuff to be a huge turn off. You could pay and train a monkey to do it better than the likes of Leslie Neilson, Steve Martin, Jim Carrey and all the other one trick ponies.
In case you think this is an anti American position, I would point out that there are other actors with similarly irritating lack of talent, like Ricky Gervais, Steve Coogan and Sascha Baron Cohen. All excruciatingly unfunny.
The few who can carry it off and actually have some depth as an actor would include, Robin Williams, Peter Sellars, Bill Murray, Dan Ackroyd, Woody Allen and Whoopi Goldberg.
Heart of Gold and a Knob of butter.

Agreed. I too don't much care for the Jim Carrey, Leslie Neilson, Steve Martin type of slapstick.

Cleese was great. Also Mr. Bean, Rowan Atkinson.

Ah, yes. Peter Cook. w/ Dudley, and a few stimulants and booze, they turned into the notorious "Derek & Clive".

    Disgusting.

Rowan Atkinson gets away with it because of Blackadder. A lot of that show was down to the scripts as well as the great comedy actors.

I would add a couple of Brit actresses to the list. Miranda Richardson for Blackadder and Julie Walters for just about everything she evr did.

Had you considered the addition of a preposition to that statement? In the interests of clarity like.

I always thought Mr. Bean was completely slapstick ie. physical. Certainly not verbal.

I loved Richard Pryor & Gene Wilder in "See no evil, hear no evil" when I was a kid. Probably hasn't stood the test of time though.
