    Smile Are you happy ?

After years of awful food women weather I discovered during my terminal breakthrough the land of smiles. After a miserable life amongst whingeing white people I find myself amongst content folks who have never had it so good ,our town is booming work for all,new rds,new drugs, new pharmacies.

Despite some unusual plumbing recipes and demolition derbies I have survived a second decade and have little desire to live anywhere else.

Regimes wives empties come and go but the freedom to enjoy nature is seldom more than an elastic band away.

The local authorities shale me down for around 200 sovs per annum for a visa and few day trips to a Burmese wine shop op but seemed to ignorre income land capital gain and local planning taxes.

Rather like old days in Portugal drunk peasants share their scoff and hootch and happily barrel home in battered trucks after 10 beers and few chasers.

Local hospital will give me a room and Dr for less than a hotel or decent lunch in Sydney San Francisco or Paris

The sun shines theirs rice on the table and fish in the batter.

Thanks to Thailand and its people for making me so welcome.

My life humble as it may be has turned out so much better than I imagined ,many of my friends and peers from school work and college have died coronary, cancer, car wrecks ,military or just self abuse.

Some others while they have great relationships and much higher assets and incomes are still in the Western work Mortgage, commuting ,school run traffic jam lifestyle which eats your time.

Like the Philipinnes Thailand is a great place for a mellow retirement if that s what you seek.

Of course the culture in Paris San Francisco has many ops ,London LA Helsinki done em all and great at the time,Germany Australia Italy all fine of you have wedge detached house apart from the latter miserable climate.

I think Portugal is the only other place Id consider

You enjoyed Helsinki?? I had the misfortune to spend a month there back in 1997, found it lacking in every way imaginable although I did find solace in an Irish bar, be it the people, the food, the culture it's not somewhere I have the desire to ever return to. In Finland's defence though when out of Helsinki it is a beautiful country just not for me.

Nothing wring with finding happiness in my opinion.

It all has to do with tour very own point of view...which sometimes can change daily if not hourly.

If you can get a good night's sleep w/o the pills and such then you have peace of mind. Albeit the rooster can change it all at sun up.

I'm extremely happy because I have a choice in my life of what I do and where I live.

    I choose Bangkok.

I would not be happy if I was Infirm, banged up in a hospital, in a dead end marriage or trying to survive on a shitty pension.

    Yes, Thailand's brilliant.

Can leave when ever I want though, unlike the bridge burning lot.

^^^ hopefully you are blessed with good genes.

Every tick on the clock after 60 the statistics start working against your body.

Hopefully we shall never rust...but we all do...one way or another.

"david44" engrish ain't your native language is it? Keep up with those ESL classes, you'll get there.

At first I was suspect the O/P did this post "under the influence" of one or more prescription medz or perhaps "felt better" and was off his medz entirely.

    Then I read this;
"Like the Philipinnes <sic> Thailand is a great place for a mellow retirement if that s what you seek."
and I knew he's been out in the sun way too long!

If you set the "happiness bar" low enough to the ground, you can walk across it without tripping on it.
