    One Dimensional Man

I came across this interesting article about conformity whilst googling the word "Paki".

In Theory - Herbert Marcuse: One Dimensional Man? | Ceasefire Magazine

I shall read the book if I can find it.

I find it curious how as we rocket into the modern era of instant at your fingertip internet critical thinking is being systematical repressed by a myopic and narrow minded "few". Their dominant paradigm has become increasingly narrow serving the only needs of consumerism and greed.

Why is discussion about language not permitted? Just because certain words have been emotionally charged for a variety of reason shouldn't preclude intelligent discourse.

So I suggest to our fearless moderation staff before you wantonly delete forum content; think first: whether your deletion is based on some myopic cultural interpretation of UK English.
Seems to me our fantastic leap of computer/internet technology has created a generation of one dimensional men who strive not to think critically but to conform to the dominant paradigm of fascist commercialism.

It's kinda astonishing how prescient gifted writers like George Orwell were in their outspokenness against totalitarian thought control.

So how about; instead of wantonly deleting content, ie practicing "thought control", how about you dedicate yourselves to a useful function like improving the forum software, to enhance and expand communication and critical thinking.
Would that be asking too much?

Why would you think the software needed updating given the average content of the forum Earl?

How good does software need to be for a bunch of blokes to talk shit day in day out? (Self included)

Get to the stage you're posting so many photo threads the software isn't keeping up with you, then moan about it Earl. Horse before the cart and all that mate.

Dismissing your commentary reserved for the mods, generally speaking, it seems quite apparent that critical thought or challenging processes have been replaced or remade by a firm standard of established convention.......

No one is curious about exploring other/alternative possibilities outside of the paradigm that has been stoutly design for them [us].

Extreme culturally centric or sub-culturally centric has been the model for quite a time....becoming more endowed with the passing generations.

Dumbing down is an art, less a science.

Now that's an interesting thought. But I suggest our fearless bearers of the language standards haven't a clue. Critical thinking was banished decades ago as writers like Orwell suggest. It only seems like art today because of the phenomenal technology at out fingertips.

What would happen if freedom of thought were to occur?

    Would cannabis become legal?

Anyway I think it is our duty to question the dominant paradigm and totalitarianism.

There is one 'Paki' where I work, but she isn't your average 'Paki', she must be about 150kg, smokes roll ups, drinks vodka when goes out, is a laugh a minute and uses the word 'Paki' non stop herself, she's actually got quite a pretty face just a shame she's the size of a fully grown buffalo, now if she was representative of all people with Pakistan heritage in the UK then there would be no issues, good and bad with all races.

From the article you were to fucking lazy to post to support your moan....

Think, for instance, of the posters everywhere in Nottingham, UK, advertising the latest crackdowns and providing phone numbers for council ‘support’ in dealing with local problems in repressive ways (shop a benefit ‘thief’, report ‘anti-social behaviour’, CCTV is here ‘for your safety’, such-and-such enemy of the people is banned from this area for begging, petty theft and generally being poor…) One can barely walk the streets today without either passively endorsing or being jolted by such messages. Is this discursive onslaught really so different from the propaganda crusades of classic totalitarianism? And is it any coincidence that the rise of such discursive intrusion coincides with attacks on flyposting and graffiti, and even a ban on election posters on lampposts?
There is nothing new in this social phenomenon, and it's following base assertion is totally wrong.

Buy the book, I doubt you will understand a word of it.

I'm surprised TD has taken such a thought police PC route to be honest.
There was a time you could pretty much speak your mind even if it was different to what others might think.
Now it seems we must all adopt the 'correct' thoughts and not express thoughts outside the set parameters.
"In my professional assessment as an intelligence officer, Trump has a reflexive, defensive, monumentally narcissistic personality, for whom the facts and national interest are irrelevant, and the only thing that counts is whatever gives personal advantage and directs attention to himself."

I say what I want when I want. Very little of it gets deleted. Can't imagine what it is people want to say but feel they can't.

^^ I think they are talking about the deletion of the Paki thread.

The point they are making is that it was taken down because it was about the word 'Paki', which for whatever reason is rude in the UK (but not the rest of the english speaking world).

Anyway I was one step ahead all along. I don't want my drunken antics plastered permanentlty on the internet forever, but did want to discuss this. It was obviously destined for the dog house, coz you can't talk about pakis with sensitive poms. It's just impossible for a thread like that to run on TD these days.

Meanwhile the hot topics I believe are who is multi-nicking who, and who is a buffaloe and a liar. Quality content fellas. No wonder nobody bothers to post quality content like pic threads anymore.

Ohhhhh. A thread on moderation. Bet this has a short shelf life.

But while it is still here, I can't help wondering when people will realize that threads normally get trashed right around the time people start calling each other names, and move away from the subject of the thread to simple trolling and disruption.

That being said, there still seems to be a lot more leeway here than on, for example TV - where daring to express a contrarian opinion, in whatever manner, is as sure as shit going to lead to a banning.

It's a bit of a weak policy then. It means anything thread worthy can just be trashed by a few guys trolling each other in the thread, even if everyone has them on ignore.

Thats kind of like endorsing Kim Yong for not being quite as brutal as Hitler. Fozzy logic there.

I doubt that thread was deleted due to the use of one word. There are plenty of examples on the forum not deleted, some over a year old. Just look at Piwanoi's posts. There are dozens and even two new ones this morning.

Yes but in this case pakis were the topic of the thread, not just mentioned in passing.
All a bit much for some of the more sensitive types.

TV is not a fair comparison for any forum.

That shithole is so over-moderated and rife with "Off topic post removed" and "Reminder to members of rule #234,223 Section B.." and the utterly pathetic "//CLOSED//" remark on a thread with a fucking padlock already on its icon that it is an aberration rather than the norm of forums. The only other places so sensitive to comments I have seen are things like FreeRepublic and StormFront where even the slightest deviation from approved dogma is disappeared immediately.

The mods at TV seem to be on a continual mission to justify their existence by bragging as much as possible whenever they sense the opportunity to remove something or point out some minuscule infraction of a rule.

A while back I saw that a post had been edited by a mod because somebody had accidentally screwed up some formatting, the mod had left a message saying "Edited by *mod name*, please use the quote function correctly to keep the forum tidy" or some crap like that FFS!

For someone to disagree with you they must be stupid right?

Are even remotely aware of how thin that is?

Of course thought police is nothing new. Orwell published 1984 in 1949.
Must I think like you? I probably should be arrested for thought crime!

You might not realize it; but you graciously provided a great example of the one dimensional man.
