Saw this posted by Necron, and did not want to derail the World News in Pictures thread, so will start a new thread.

I know those poppies are all sold out (my mother tried to order one). They sell for 25 pounds each.

There were actually 888,246 poppies made.

    My calculator works out 888, 246 x 25 quid to be 22,206,150.

    32% on overheads?

    Hmmmmmm.

Cost of design, production, packing and transport seems quite reasonable. Especially if they were made by disabled veterans, which the paper poppies and wreaths are.

Still a tidy sum for the legion to distribute to good causes.

Ex service personal should not have to rely on charitable handouts.

Most (reputable) charities try to work at about 10% for overheads. Design, production and to an extent packing and transport should have been supported through corporate sponsorship.

My rough calculation puts the overheads at 32%. Honestly, I think that is high.

Having myself been through the system of claiming for injuries received whilst serving I can honestly say that the system stinks and is a bollix. An illegal immigrant would get an easier ride to benefits than an ex serviceman.

Hard to agree or disagree without a few facts.

should see how much the Poppy factory charity pays in rent each year, you'd think they would locate somewhere cheaper help the servicemen more.
