The seasons are changing for sure, you used to be able to tell the time here by what time the rain came, not now.

Could explain why Thais are always late.
Is it worth trying 2 crops you ask?
If enough water it is. If not, lose near all you made on the first crop. Risky business but farming in general is risky business.
True or they just not turn up.
As is the reason why [rice] most don't take that risk where they're dependent on rainfall - the plateau, Isaan take on one decent crop per year [a better quality rice].....whereas the great broad and natural river flood plains and basins - which encompass most of the central, central-west, and even highland north - can easily produce two/three crops a year. The security of water resources is always present......if not for the annual flooding that occurs.
Sure round me 2 crops a year are viable, people are harvesting now and it's still raining.
Once you have secured your rice for the year, sold the surplus, why work more, doesn't pay well.
Need cash, get a job, plenty around, but most would rather sleep, eat and talk, rather than work.
Plus good money to be made in the jungle or crossing over to Lao, not much chance of getting caught.
Locals have lots of legal options, summer rice, new fast growing cassava planted in rice paddy in the dry season, fish, they dig the holes for free. All too much work, rice supply secure, take 9 months off.
As said before, don't know anyone in this village except the teachers that have full time jobs.
Eat drink and be merry, works for me. Jim
When you think about it no a bad life as long as your not in debt to the banks, though saying that if they sow the seeds and hand cut, back breaking work done it once never again.
It amazes me how they can lounge around a lot of the year and then do that work.
Necessity. Masseurs are in great demand now and 'til the end of November.Originally Posted by Yasojack
