Why are a bunch of old geezers so fixated on their age? Good thing the old age pension in the USA is called social security or the PC folks would want the name changed. It is what it is, Gramps.

    Why not consider living forever?

(Or as close to it as you can get)

Extending one's lifespan to beyond 100yrs is eminently feasible, as is repair and rejuvenation of one's body.

Sticking to pharmacological scripts instead of adjusting one's lifestyle to accommodate healthier living is a sure way towards an early demise.

There's nothing impossible about living a healthy active and enjoyable disease free life well into the second century of one's life.

^ Not sure about that man. Have seen several people pass away prematurely who most of their friends and relatives probably would have said they thought the person was a perfect example of good living.

I know that Terry's b-day is around the same time as mine. Mine is the 24th of September and i think Terry's is around the 29th.

There is a Western Union shop just around the corner from where i live.

All donations accepted, with glee. And jumping up and down like Masai warriors.

Blame Obama for aging. I have hard evidence that he is sending military jets up that are laying contrails of a secret gas to cause aging.

Growing old is fun if you're in good health.

There are ways of putting off or delaying, or even completely avoiding age related diseases such as cancer, diabetes, atherosclerosis, diabetes, alzheimers, parkinson's disease and a few others.

All of those diseases are age related, a result of bio-degradation due to several factors, largely environmental.

Pollutants, unhealthy diets and unhealthy life-styles in general cause us all to age prematurely, and a very small minority of us are aware of that at an early stage of the game, before severe symptoms of organic failure start to show.

Taking heed of early warning signs of physical degeneration and acting to head off the encroaching physical conditions indicated is not a big ask, but something most people prefer not to think about, shrugging it all off with a "It's not gonna happen to me. " attitude.

I had a scare earlier on, atherosclerosis, and a massive cholesterol level that I wasn't even aware of.

Along with that was a pre-diabetic sugar high.

You don't have to be fat to have a high LDL cholesterol level, mine was twicw my HDL cholesterol level, which was also on the high side.

The condition could be genetic, as mine could be, but I keep it all under control now by living an extremely healthy lifestyle, lots of exercise and of all things, Niacin, Vitamin B3, to get my LDL down, and it works.

Niacin in large enough doses also keeps cancer at bay, helps clear up atherosclerosis, aids in repairing the endothelium layer of your arteries, repairs DNA damage, repairs nerve damage, slows cataract formation and reverses or at least slows down the effects of alzheimer's disease.

Another co-player in the game of re-juvenation is a calory-restricted diet, one high enough in nutrients but low enough to force your liver to work at keeping you alive.

Think about it, and try it out, it's worth it.

I'm now(at 68 yoa) in top physical condition with a BP of 106/60, a pulse rate of around 65 > 71, depending on what I'm doing, a normal blood sugar level, no insulin resistance and a pH of 7, average.

Cancer and any other disease doesn't flourish in an alkaline environment, and medication and vitamins etc along with good nutrients aren't as effective in an acid body.

So keeping your pH level at around 7 is a must,...alkalize for health.

Heh...Al Bundy cut in front of someone at the supermarket checkout line and the person protested, "Hey, I was next!"...

You're seriously deluding yourself mate, after 50 years as a tobacco smoker.
How are your teeth, by the way ? Nice and yellow ? Or have you had them bleached to delude yourself further ?

Many, much younger, have their teeth fixed to create an illusion of good health.

A friend of mine keeled over last week from a massive heart attack.

    31 years old.

It's true, like a lot of you have said, i am amazed i am still alive after all the chemical and alcoholic abuse this poor body of mine has had to put up with.

My only problem i have now is my eyesight, i need reading glasses. And, depending on the weather, i get a big fat sore knee. Which, my mum told me, is arthritis. It comes and goes and i guess a visit to the doctor is on the books coz the winter is arriving and it gets damn cold and damp here.

I think also awareness that we cannot get any younger and eat better etc. plays a big part in growing old gracefully. Genes do come into it. I look at my mother who is 84 and pray that i am as healthy as her if i get to her age.

^^ Two younger pals of mine fell over from heart attacks too. One, after a by-pass op at 42 yoa and the other, a seemingly fit 51 yo competitive hockey player fell over mid run on the field in front of his wife and son who were watching the match.

Calcium in the heart and plaque (a combination of cholesterol and calcium) build up are silent killers, so magnesium is highly recommended along with Vit D for that problem.

Garlic and any of the onion family along with willow tips/bark (aspirin) and Vit B3, Niacin in mega-doses (< 3000 mg daily) will get cholesterol levels down.

Keeping fit's a must, along with aerobic exercises daily along with weight training and an adequate balanced diet (drink lots of water and fruit/vege juices) does heaps towards being healthy.

Smoke polluted atmospheres, whether caused by diesel/petrol vehicle fumes, or by other unburnt hydrocarbons (such as rice-straw smoke, cigarette smoke, ganja smoke, incence etc) or any other pollutant dusts and fumes will ALL wreak havoc on the lungs, the worst being diesel fumes, wood/straw smoke, chemical fumes and loess (fine silt dust particles, mainly quartz and silicates) with tobacco, ganja and incence smokes causing far less damage, collectively.

The leading cause of death in the Chiangmai is from respiratory collapse resulting from chronic pulmonary obstruction, and this in a population of largely non-smokers.

Lungs are 85% reparable within a few months of being damaged in any form, as the body has a remarkable capacity to heal itself, it has evolved so.

Eating high RNA protein foods such as sprouting seeds etc. nuts and grais, fruit, growing tips of plants, fish roe, very small fish such as whitebait and sardines and so on, coconut water all contain the most assimilable form of protein the body needs to rebuild and repair itself.

Gotu kola is another remarkable healing herb, and along with gelatine helps build up collagen and fibrin levels in the body for tissue repair, including lung repair. Using lobelia as another catalytic herb increases the effectiveness of gotu kola, and along with sage (salvia)

Use vitamins C, Niacin and Vit E aqlong with that.

COPD is surely a major health problem in the North, but I find it hard to believe it is the leading cause of death.

Would like to see more info on this.

Pulmonary collapse is the leading cause of death in Chiangmai, or at least was up to 2012.

I should have expanded more on that and explained how the high levels of ozone there (highest in Thailand) contribute to the formation of carcinogens under the influence of UV light, by combining with unburnt hydrocarbons in the atmosphere, which are then inhaled.

COPD is more of a co-factor in the problem, as well as fluorides and other air-borne pollutants drifting over from the ceramics factories in Lamphun, all of which slowly choke the local CM population to death.

^ Where are you finding this info, that pulmonary collapse is/was the leading cause of death?

    Is it on the internets?

^ Just to add to that, causes of respiratory collapse also includes lung cancer, (a very high rate found in CM) caused by air-pollution.
