    Let's Bugger Off To Cambodia

Now that farangs have to carry their passports with them at all times I feel that all should make their dislike of this silly rule by leaving Thailand and going to Cambodia. Nobody in his right mind should expect another person to carry a passport everywhere he goes and this has to be the most stupid decision ever made by the Thai authorities.

Only the actual passport will suffice in Thailand now.

Well good luck with your petition then. I bet loads of expats will follow your lead and I bet the junta will be really sorry.

I don't like the rule either, but in ten years of living here, I've been asked for my passport twice, both times during traffic checks, ridding my bike. One time I showed my passport to a cop, I think he was just bored, he even asked me if the address on my driver's license was current. Second time it was a traffic check manned by soldiers; I showed them a photo copy and my Thai DL, no problema

I doubt that the passport law will be strictly enforced, but who knows? Nothing surprises me here...

TIT, they can arrest me because my eyes are blue, what ever. If I get to the point where this stuff truly aggravates me, I'll hop on the big iron bird and sky up

thought any embassy would advise to carry a photocopy of passport if deemed unsafe to carry in public.

Thai's were saying the same thing around 2004 but when looked into, embassy staff advised it was lawful to carry a photocopy.

Has a ring of 1930's Germany to it.

Thailand of course, not Cambodia, that's more like 1500's Amazon territory.

Depending where you live in the Golden Land, as all authoritarian figures differ from locale.

Yes, one can carry as many photocopies as one wishes and all will be lawful. The point is that farangs are now required to carry actual passports at all times ! The copies are irrelevant.

That could be a plus - depending on one's perspective.

required in Madagascar along with your visa ( if it is not a stamp )

not required if you are in possession of a valid residents card as that is sufficient

You get fined 2000 baht, no excuses. If you get stopped ten times in the afternoon, 20,000 baht up your shirt !

Please pay attention ! Farangs now have to carry their passports at all times. They will be liable to an on the spot fine of 2000 baht if they do not. Driving licence is immaterial.

It's on TV and only refers to a briefing given by HUA HIN immigration.

No wider press or announcements yet.

.... because it is being discussed on other forums and I don't want to get into trouble with Teakdoor kings and get banned and stuff 'cause I couldn't sleep ever again if I was banned from here and, bollocks !

Seems only to apply to Hua Hin.
    Valid ID's are:

    - Thai Drivers Licence
    - Passport original
    - Copy of passport verified and stamped by Hua Hin Immigration

    Penalty:
Failure to carry valid ID as above is 2,000 Baht.
Immigration: Foreigners must now carry valid ID at all times, report within 24 hours - Thai visas, residency and work permits - Thailand Forum

I've never been asked for a passport here ever. Been stopped int he car by cops a fair amount and they are never ask for a passport. Maybe they are getting hungry now the army is closing down their casinos and brothels.

As prag confirms - its photo ID, not passport perhaps?

    Mate,

Before you post up this shit Up you need to get your facts sorted.

They have in fact decided to require Farang to carry Identification but a photo copy of ones passport signed and certified by Immigration will do the job.

Also a local drivers license or International license will do it.

I will never carry my Passport around unless I'm going to Immigration or the Australian Embassy.

Another crack down by Immigration that is not hard to abide by.

    No Biggy EH.
