A good bakery that can deliver quality bread would be great.
In Songkhla town, near to Samila Beach.

There are already deliveries of pies to Hat Yai, Satun and NST that I know of. The pies are highly spoken of, hence the long distance deliveries.

    Customer must pay for delivery.

One customer in Satun pays a taxi driver to take them to Hat Yai (maybe 400 baht?) and put them in a minivan to Satun Bus Station where she picks them up. Doubt that costs much.

I'm working in Korea at the moment and don't have any good pics, but I have a couple of stills from a video clip my gf took. Coming up...

    2nd course is traditionally consomme

In this climate Al Andalus Gazpacho ok ,Local toms ,garlic

Chaep and very easy classy Vichysoisse ,aka leek and paotatoe soup
Or from my garden Pumpkin de-seed rinse ,thru the Mouli ?blender etc or evn those hand whisker things crap ones are 199 by Lotis with faux kraut name Oto or some some such

Same effect chop real fine and cook longer r use a strong Thai Pestle and mortar almost a pesto

There are some very good Italian soups too which for Thai palletee throw in some WHEAT noodles for a kind of Minestrone

If the punters will pay or make it a main

Castillian Sopa or better Crema de Mariscs

Use all juices and bones shells of last nights fish and seafood strain
Add to the reduction Good White wine sherry,Shallots and butter
Garnish with parsley r saffron if you want to add $2 per bowl
A dollop of Yoghurt/Creme fraich and a dot of light soy

    Other soups easy to make
    Tomato
    Onion
    Leek with bcaon and bits
    Cockaleekie

My pick will always be Cullen Skink
The frozen white fish here is a reasobale substitute I add a little Pataks oil of their Garlic paste to add OOMPH
    Lobster
    Clam Chaowder ok
I dont like Corn soup but the ingredients are here

    Mains to follow
    Jugged Hare
    Tripe ala Hoota
    Poussin fricasse
    Ratatouille
Paelle is easy to make bar the saffron here
PS my suspicion is LuckyJimbo isnt CNM at all but a much better cook

If you need 2nd quality saffron at under $5500kg I m visiting my fealer soon
It comes it date stamped 10gram plastic units sealed I can sens a fee sample the its around 200baht a gram ,I only use to steep and make Saffron buns,

I am going to look into a smoker for out back. I reckon if I can smoke some dory (the proper dory) I could be onto some good Cullen Skink which I can cook myself quite easily. The problem is trying not to eat it all.

Not likely but if I could there would be a promotional sign outside saying something like 'Throw your empty can at a ladyboy'

Songkhla Town, not Province but in Songkhla Province, is an oil town so there are many ex-pats living, rotating, crew changing and generally coming and going there.

There is a Muslim fishing village at one end of the beach road and many ex-pats live around there too. I've never heard of any problems there.

Songkhla is a visibly wealthy town, people appear happy and friendly. There's none of the problems associated with Tourist Thailand.

Songkhla, outside of the spotted troubled south has quite a history of stability and well-to-doness. I do believe that many will bring the associated stereotypes with them when considering the deep south.

That's good news and something I was not aware of, (the oil patch.) I use to spend a lot of time in Prachupkhirikan 81 kilometers south of Hua Hin. Even considered relocating there. Small simple fishing village with many government agencies. Never stopped in Songkala on my travels. guess I should have. My loss.

Guilty as charged thaimeme. When I think of the "Thailands Deep South," the picture is clouded with stereotypes...4,000 plus murdered. A pretty dark cloud in my experience.

    Dillinger,
I come from Nanoi in Nan province, and I have NEVER heard of "Nan Bread."
Please elaborate this further, or what you really mean?

It's an Indian bread, served with curries. A lot of people use it instead of a fork or spoon to eat with.

Garlic Naan. If I understand correctly, you're supposed to tear a little piece off and use it to scoop up the food. I also understand that in many cultures, it is considered taboo to touch food with the left hand. Does that apply in this case? If so, how do you tear off a piece of naan with just one hand?

Also, while the naan can soak up the curry and other juicy goodness quite well, I find it somewhat difficult to use it to pick up anything solid. Everything is so wet and slippery and stuff just keeps falling off. Is there any secret technique, or should I just practice some more?

Make a little hole in the bread and scoop up the meat. Don't try to be ladylike.

    Or ask for a spoon.

Or as above. Probably better, you can even take your own bowl. I would like a Hello Kitty one, thank you.

You guys are confusing naan bread with Japatis, which are thinner and more foodscoopable.
