    Who puts on your socks?

Got a foot massage last week and afterwards the gal starts putting on my socks and motorcycling shoes. Told her she didn't have to do that but she asked "Doesn't your wife do this for you?" Had to laugh. She was probably trolling for a hansum ATM but made me think..... Does any of that old culture still exist in Thailand?

Not in our household and it's quite the opposite attitude actually. She has certain expectations that I don't just sit on my rear and play computer all day. There are chores like dumping the garbage, straightening the bed after arising, cleaning my breakfast dishes, etc. that I am expected to take care of each day. Otherwise a rash of shit ensues. That's understandable to a certain extent as she holds down a job and is a bit envious that I can stay home all day.

As far as socks go, I brought a few pair with me when I moved to Thailand years ago, and I think I have worn them on maybe 5 occasions. The most use has been during the 'winter' months here when I have worn them around the house to keep my feets warm.

You are the man! Years ago I had dinner with a Thai friend I met at Bang Saen Beach. His wife cooked, brought us beer, served up dinner, but did not eat with us. I asked my friend why she wasn't eating with us. He responded that she was a traditional Thai wife. The whole night she was in the kitchen as we partied.

I presume a few of you are too rotund to be able to take your socks off.

I can still manage, except for the past few days it's been 33 degrees here. No need for socks. Even did my 4 minute walk to the ciggie shop in bare feet last night, no dog crap luckily.

My wife does the same when I have friends over. She cooks, brings the beer, serves dinner and stays to herself. I would prefer she eat with me, but this has never happened in the past since I always am expected to eat first and then the rest of the family will eat after. A little lonely sometimes, but the Thai traditions are great.

My wife has never put on my shoes and socks, but she does cut my toenails, which has never been done by the other numerous women I have been with in my lifetime.

    Life is grand!!!
