    Semi-Respectable Night Out in Pattaya

I will be in Pattaya for a total of seven nights in November.I will be accompanied by wife, my daughter and her boyfriend. I have lost touch with Pattaya and it has changed a lot since I was there last.

I am looking for places to go in the evening which will be entertaining and outside of the sex scene. My wife and I used to go to Malibu and Hopf quite often when we lived there and I am looking for something similar. We are too mean to go to Tiffany's and, to be honest, there is a limit to how much lip synching I can take. I would be quite happy to crawl around the open bars playing Connect 4 and getting pissed but the others will be lucky to get through six bottles between them all night so drinking is not for them.

We don't want restaurants as we eat street food in Thailand, wife and daughter stop at almost every noodle stall. I once lived in Siam Country Club and apart from one restaurant of note there was nothing there then. Is there anything, apart from tha Butterfly Bar, which a respectaable farang should make the effort to see there, please ?

Our last day will be December 5, King's birthday. Will all the bars be shut, please ?

    Thank you.

The Pattaya beer garden at the entrance to Walking street will fit your bill perfectly.

    Great food .

about the most entertaining activity in thailand for non-drinking non-mongering retirees with their wives and family in tow is people watching in the red light areas.

one can easily find a table in a prime viewing position, nurse a cold drink and smugly wallow in ones sense of superiority as one observes the mongers, the meatheads, the sad old geezers with dyed hair, pot bellies and too tight jeans, the fat hookers, the thin hookers, the gorgeous hookers and all the other silly losers as they laugh and joke and drink throwing caution to the wind line themselves up for some good times and serious fucking, all the while constantly congratulating oneself that you are not one of them.

    aaaah entertaining times indeed.

Sounds like quite a nice entertaining night out. I'd be up for that.

Coming from where? I was going to suggest Hopf for a pizza but you already know that.

King's birthday? Hotels will still serve beer so go to The Maroitt or somewhere similar for supper.

Breakfast at the Royal Varuna Yacht Club is quite pleasant, although it might be a bit of the beaten track without a car?

Bit more down market I quite like the supper buffet at Anton's in Naklua. Ok one can only eat so much Schnitzel, sauerkraut and spaetzle but it makes a change?
Better to think inside the pub, than outside the box?
I apologize if any offence was caused. unless it was intended.

Forget about The Butterfly Bar. Where's the vomit smiley?

Along Soi Siam Country Club Rd you have dozens of acceptable eateries including English, Indian, vegetarian, German and others including 100's of thai street food vendors.

Around Maprachan reservoir there must be 20 bars with the best being The Venue which has a Hard Rock Cafe feel along with your normal open air beer bars. You also have quality hotels now and Siam Country Resort which is good value.

Then you have the dozens of the Darkside Bars and you can google a map but you will need transport to get around.

Thanks to all who have replied. I will have my own transport and the only reason I am going to Pattaya is to pick up a car from a man who is trustworthy. I want to be able to drink so I will not be driving at night. I just want to see the place again as I was very happy living there. Then, I will be off to wildest Isaan.

I believe he sold out a while back. I ate there several times but it was always just OK. You are right though, the available pool of German retirees declines each year. There is quite a lot of competition in the German market here in Naklua so it is inevitable that they don't all make it.
