Thailand on 2 Wheels (in HD mofo)

    Bangkok - 7th June 2014 - post coup ( )

This is a thread to post up your bike cam or helmet cam footage of Thailand taken on 2 wheels. I'll start with 30 minutes of footage taken around BKK today.

The footage is shaky and fucked up - but this is the first. Anybody with good tips about equipment , camera mounting or settings - chip in.

This footage runs from Rama 4 down through Sukhumvit 22 to Sukhumvit 16. Then from Petburi Road up to the Honda Big Wing shop on Ram Intra. Then from Rama 9 back to the British embassy via Soi 23, Cowboy, Asoke and Nana.

A couple of posters reckon that BKK is under harsh military control.

20 click round trip - and not a soldier or copper in sight - Don't believe the hype

Here's the route, video just uploading to youtube, will post later or in the morning.

Couldn't work out how to fix the date on my 800bt glasses camera so ignore the 2012 stamp

Today we wanted to go to the Travel show out at Impact Arena so we jumped the sky train to MoChit and cabbed it out to Impact.

Had to abort the trip after being stuck in a traffic jam for 60 minutes so told the driver to turn around and take us back to JJ mall.

Hope you better luck than us. It was frigging mad today.

Give it another crack during the week.

Don't do cars in Bangers mate- 2 wheels only

    For exactly that reason.

2-4am from mor chit - cool, no worries.

But the combination of shit roads, poor management and the poorest natural drivers I've ever seen create a gridlock in BKK most of the day which is suitable only for circumventing on 2 wheels by hook or by crook

And by the way, I used every audio sample in iMovie as well as a little track courtesy of DJ Shadow - and some nutty animal samples.

Apologies for shaky camera and dodgy soundtrack

Just trying to give a feel of what BKK's like at the moment.

    Neither do I,

First time in years I've actually decided to cab it but I really wanted to go to the travel show at impact. Bad call that was.

Anyway, During the week I'll chance the Impact transport van from Mochit, at least it wont cost me a wedge if caught in Traffic.

Thanks for sharing. The audio is an interesting accompaniment. It looks like you are practiced in the art of sidewalk and wrong way riding. In the rural town I'm in they don't typically ride on the sidewalks, but at times it seems there are more riders going the wrong way than the right way. You really have to look in all directions before pulling into traffic as they come out of nowhere.

For curiosity, I did a run down to Bkk on the first Monday after the coup was declared and only saw a hanfull of soldiers on the way and in Bkk. There was no presence at Victory Monument, however the BTS station was closed at the time to keep protestors from using it. I think it depends a lot on the timing and area of your visit as to what you encounter. The next day on the way out of town, Victory Monument was swarming with army types and media photographers.

    ^Camera glasses - 800bt - Khlong Tom Market BKK.

    720p HD

Will record about 2 hours (they take an hour or so to charge)

Plug straight into USB input and computer sees it as external hard drive.

    Easy to use.

Cheap though - not the greatest quality

Was reading that a bullet cam set up with seperate HD recorder, mic (plugged into it) and bullet cam (plugged into it and mounted on handlebars) is the best set-up for sound and picture quality. I reckon 5k would get you a blinding set-up.

Bought a sports cam that I mounted on to of the helmet last year. That was good - good hight - good view.

Put it down in Mae Hong Son somewhere the first day I used it and forgot it on the ground after a couple of spliffs

A wide angle lens is a good idea too.

Here is an effort of mine , but not in Thailand

I do intend to mount up the cam and get some footage on the roads in town - then you can see some crazy traffic - the only saving grace is it does not go so fast

    ^Nice.

Madagascar is supposed to be a place with an incredibly high amount of animals and natural species - I'd love to check it out if I get a chance.

Was the camera mounted on the bike?, did you run it through stabilising software?

I think the way to get a good soundtrack is to use a seperate recorder with external lens and mic. That way you can tuck the mic away where it picks up the engine and whatever you might want to say easily, but doesn't get the shitty wind distortion.

    do I need a fluffer also ?

here are the technical details of my gear and mount - though I added some electrical tape to stop the cam sliding off the swivel bit

I think I will leave it to the arty poof fcukers to add soundtracks etc - I will just provide the raw video
