Have to disagree with you Davis. You've got a whole generation locked up working for free. Petty crime in the States gets you locked up. If you get caught with blow in Europe they try to rehabilitate you.

NEW YORK -- Despite an increased emphasis on treatment and prevention programs in recent years, the Obama administration in its 2013 budget still requested $25.6 billion in federal spending on the drug war. Of that, $15 billion would go to law enforcement, interdiction and international efforts.

The pro-reform Drug Policy Alliance estimates that when you combine state and local spending on everything from drug-related arrests to prison, the total cost adds up to at least $51 billion per year. Over four decades, the group says, American taxpayers have dished out $1 trillion on the drug war.

I'm no fan of American narcotics laws - or at least I wouldn't be if I ever gave them any thought - which I don't. Nor do I care what Europe does - they're as fucked up in Londonstan as in the US. But, the people who violated US drug laws knew full well what the penalties were - which is why the high profits are so enticing. Tough shit. They should be working instead of watching cable TV.

I was referring to slavery in US history.
The slave culture has morphed and changed now. It's not about colour or creed anymore. It's about having indentured poverty stricken people on minimum wage or incarcerated in jails working for free. Cheek out that slave driver Sheriff Joe Joe Arpaio - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

He's nothing more than a modern slave driver.
You're shifting gears pretty quickly. The 13th Amendment outlawed slavery in the US 149 years ago; there are no slaves alive today, nor slave owners. So the "slave culture" has nothing to do with anything. Then, on to minimum wage workers being slaves. Drivel. Then on to prisoners being forced to work instead of sitting in their cells. So what? What is your point? Sorry. Almost missed your last, where a twice convicted drug smuggler gets sent to jail. So what? Is the point of this thread simply what you don't like about America? If so, I'll leave you to it. If you have a point to make, please do so.
And it's not a thread about me not liking America or Americans. It's conversation, discourse, not an attack. I want to converse on US policies.

They send me wads of money every month, and take some back in Federal Tax. That's how it works. I can read the news and see where it goes.

Cuz they love me. And I put the money to good use. They're just nice people.

I was in the military for 3 years - 17 shy of a pension.

If you have to ask what's wrong [even rhetorically]....one might re-sharpen their skills of perspective and observations. You've lost the plot.

    The place ain't right.

I haven't posted in awhile but this got my attention.

I came back to the US in Feb after a year in Thailand for the one thing the US is good for.....making money. The only problem with making money is the myriad ways the US tricks you into spending it more quickly than you can make it. To actually save a decent amount quickly you have to live like a pauper. Luckily for me my time in Thailand taught me how to be happy without constantly fulfilling my consumer brainwashing that I got from growing up in the US. Now I can use this forsaken place for what it's good for, making money.

At this rate I should be able to partially retire in 2 years (I will be 41).

Having been away for a year you get more of a sense of how fucked up this country really is. I wonder how long America can drag out it's demise?
I'm not saying it was Aliens, but it was Aliens!

Correct, and that's why after the civil war and the abolishment of slavery the Jim Crow laws were intoduced to give equality through segregation, which stood for near on 80 years until the likes of Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat on a bus and a young MLT Jr took up the cause.

I will allow others to conclude how these laws affected the percecption of the discourse in American culture.

    Just a quick sidenote.

I agree that DK is one of the good guys and from recollection has spent nearly as many years outside the U.S.A as inside, so he probally has a good insight to the comparions between different discourses of cultures.

Even though the bent American powers have been/are destroying the planet through fake wars based on subjagation and resource theft, the best hope is for a change from within rather than all out war with them.

A lot of Americans are on the global side of righteousness and freedom - so we're on the same side. Davis is one of the good guys.
