    Thailand Restarted

    So Yingluck's stepped down.

The plan is to have an interim team running the show for 12-18 months? while National reforms are put into place.

So, imagining it doesn't all turn to shit and sensible reforms go ahead - what areas need to be considered and reformed?

No need for discussion. Only a select group of Thais will decide the fate of Thailand and your future as a guest of the nation. And of course, that group will be told what to do by a special council who deal with an even higher group. It's not about you but discussing ideas is okay.

If Thailand really wants to live with higher standards close to Buddhism, it needs to close down all the nightlife establishments and massage parlours. In addition, all pirated goods must go and those with them need to be fined or jailed. Drunk drivers need to be jailed and open bottles in public need to be banned. Smoking and cigarettes gone forever. Foreigners screened much more thoroughly on entry and those staying in the nation. Unlicensed vehicles and drivers including tourists fined heavily. Overstaying foreigners locked up for 3-5 years. Properties with foreign ownership even in the case of marriage must be 100% in Thai hands. Monks who use cellphones disrobed and possibly jailed. Christians and Moslems who get visas based on religion arrested and deported.

    Just a few ideas.

A blood test to determine who is of true Thai blood. Witchhunts, hanging, book burnings, rounding up of infidels, national and religious oaths before the sword.

There are no plans for national reform, Albert - sorry to shock you with this news... If there were, we'd all be supporting it...

The plans are for an elite group to consolidate their power by taking away rights and freedoms. Expect things like harsher LM laws, changes in education to remove English and Science and replace them with Thai History (as written by this group) and more parades dressed in yellow.

Since we are going back to the glorious days, farangs should be required to wear fitting respectable attire by law. Something like this...

I think if Corruption was dealt with Singapore style many other matters would sort themselves.Hoever there is no thirst from the corrupt for change and seems no one above them to enforce.

In case you had illusions of a normal democracy we live in a wild west darwinian kleptocracy where rich are never imprisoned and blatantly drive over the forces of law and order literally with impunity.A convict is issued a passport and so and so on.

I am not allowed to post my mature opinions in the serious part so remain at the sandpit end. A brief glance at New Mandala or UK ambassadors leaving letters may give you some insights.

Like all of us with families here, taxes to pay and hospitals to die in it could be be better but I for one would sooner die here. There are so many personal freedoms that do not exist in far wealthier societies I;ve lived in Oz USA France and Spain for years and even Chna,Laos or Malaysia have better lifestyle,Thailand is the acme of sanook provided you ignore the cities.

As for the puppets at the trough the faces change but the game remains the same, there is no ideology, religion or morality its all cash and once you understand that you understand ASEAN love it or loath it,squeaky clean Singapore is brain death to me an antispetic Mall of cowed children

And a bloody good job too. I used to like Parade Magazine. This Yellow version, is it for the Asian market then?

Anyway - nothing will happen. ANother group of Thai Rich will have their chance of feeding from the trough. Might get a spat or two, a couple of protests, some inconvenience in Bangkok, and then Thaksin other sister getting the PM job, with Chalerms sons in as well.

How do you know this - I mean, if nothing's been tabled in 6 months you can say that. Supposedly the reforms will begin now. Let's give them a few months to see what changes they implement before condeming then.

    Thailand post reformation:

    1: Education
This is an unnecessary expense. Those who need it are already getting a good education of around ThB 1,million per annum, Cut the pay of Thai teachers and send the Farangs home.

    2: Economic Policy
All government contracts to be handed out to companies approved by the government who are above suspicion.
Scrap the rice pledging scheme and teach farmers how to grow poppies which are worth more.

    3: Legal/Police System
Only people driving cars under 1,800cc to be subject to fines.

    4: Election Process
Anyone with a surname beginning with the letter "S" to be barred from politics.
Individuals living in North and North Eastern Thailand to be barred from voting for five years for supporting Pheu Thai.

    5: Tax System
Increase VAT because the burden falls on wage earners. Abolish business taxes.

    6: Immigration Policies
Make life harder for foreigners to show how patriotic the government is.

    7: Transport Systems/Policies
Scrap all public transport infrastructure projects and spend the money on Mercedes cars for high ranking officials.

    Not mentioned in the OP..

There are plenty examples of educated people right here in the hallowed halls of TD that are as thick as two short planks.

    Oh, hi Albert.

    Education cannot cure thick-as-two-short-plankery.

Education you say? Yes. Far too much of it. Thailand is a nation of happy peasants who, after a day spent scraping together just about enough food for a meal, love nothing more than to tug their forelocks at their elders and betters so who needs to waste time on such frivolous nonsense. All you need to know is that you love father, and you don't need to waste time reading books to know that, do you. And the election process? Yes. 1932 was clearly a mistake so reform of the franchise is certainly in order. Well, maybe more abolition rather than reform, as such. In fact, the abolition of slavery is starting to look like a bad idea so perhaps the great and the good could think about that. Maybe we could start with reintroducing corvee and then take it from there. Welcome to the brave new world of Thai reform. Still, all this is a bit beside the point; the supply of lithe 18-year-olds prepared to suck white cock is unlikely to be interrupted (and who knows, miracle of miracles, it may even be increased) so no need to waste precious time worrying about what dumbass Thai monkeys are going to do, right?

    1) These people have been in positions of power for years, and all they've ever done is abused their power.

    2) suthep has been going for many many months now and offered nothing. How much longer does he need?

When one of their first 'reforms' is to increase the LM laws, maybe to include the privy council members, army leaders, etc, what will you think?

When people that oppose them are rounded up and put in detention centres, what will you think?

When voting rights are taken away from people, what will you think?

Will you make excuses for them after all these events?

For all their imperfections the usual sequence seems

1 Candidates freely register, list, parties are not banned as socialist and communist party are illegal here and many politicians yellow and red from previous spats

2 All adults ( here many born here in Hill tribes denied franchise) can exercise a secret ballot, this means cops do not allow mobs to intimidate voters with impunity

3 There is a secret count with local.international observers given free rein, having been an election monitor myself this is not trocket science,no computers needed

4 Depending on PR or second preference, but here first past post as long as get 20% in iunopposed seats the winner is elected

Rather different here don't you think?

I thought the plan was to implement reforms once Yingluck had stepped down. Clock starts now.

Why would I make excuses for them?
I think that there's a slight chance Thailand might start to get better. Slight I said.

Thailand is what it is. Question is how will it evolve from here. I think we can say that the west has shown us that the word democracy has been used fraudulently for years and is thus currently meaningless.

    You missed it Albert.

50% of the reforms have just been carried out. Once the rest of Phua Thai are banned from politics then the remaining 50% of planned reforms will be completed.

And who exactly decides who is honourable

It is up to the voters to decide like it or not, in cooperation with an independent uncorrupted Judiciary, - voters Thailand have, the second part they have not.

It is a farce beyond belief, a legally elected Government that can not sack a hostile civil servant arsehole put in place by a illegitimate Government incredible sad for Thailand.

Those fvuckers have put this country backwards in development and economics for years and years to come, anyone applauding this situation needs their head examined.

    Over and out.

Well, I for one am at least pleased by todays decision as I have been considering who to appeal to with regard to three recent traffic tickets I have been given ( for changing lanes in the wrong place ) . At last I now know who to appeal to and with all the photographic evidence I have I think I stand a good chance of the said tickets being rescinded.
