Actually I was dating a Chiang Mai bird in Sydney that was there studying around 2001, we came to CM for a 3 week holiday, did lots of motorbiking etc etc, her father was a really good judge of character as he told her to fok me right off.

I was walking around Meadowhell looking for a pair of sunglasses.
Went past Thomas Cook advertising board outside shop, Bangkok flying BA ,6 nights Landmark Hotel £159. I thought sunglasses £120 Bangkok £159 so I purchased both items.

Company I worked for in Aus sent me here on a 3 month stint to set up a new manufacturing facility.

Would you have chosen to base yourself in their most polluted, gridlocked, stinkin' heaving concrete metropolis or retired with some nature visible?

^^ Also my other options. If located there would be closer to family in the US. Also have friends in Costa Rica.

I love Chiang Mai. People are nice. My friends are here. Air pollution is THE only drawback. Well, take that back, driving here is no treat but certainly worse in other areas of Thailand.

velly solly start a new poll we need content and while have a large waist, library and collection of empties as old hands here know I have limited imagination, those mind expanding substances of the 60's seem to have worn off

I will answer for the last 20years. Great outdoor life for me, I love a Thai roadtrip and there is always plenty to see and some pretty dam interesting people to meet.
