What's yours, Cyrille? Mine is as a laid-back without the laying back and pouring by 2nd party, ie equal parts tequila and Roses lime cordial, sipped or small shots. 2nd fave is trad shots with lime and salt.

Don't drink it much. Just slammers in pubs when already three sheets to the wind, really.

Tequila sunrise is the only way I've ever drunk tequila - and that was a long, long time ago.

^ you 3 have obviously been drinking the cheap nasty stuff.
JP will be along to educate you shortly.

Bourbon Street in Bangkok sell some good tequila which is smooth as fuck and doesn't need any salt, lime or grimacing.

^ I've had my fair share of the horrible stuff. I hate it now, especially in Thailand where a lot of the spirits are fake, Sambuca is my chaser of choice nowadays.

Well that's fucked me up a bit. Used to the old Hong Tong, which is 35%. Capt. Morgan, 40%. Was pouring my habitual size nips... shouldn't have done that with something 14% stronger.

That's half the fun, and much of the taste.

Pretty much my experiences and take on it.

Based on those I've never really been too motivated to try the higher quality ones.

Felt like a midweek tipple, couldn't decide between Jimmy or Black.

So fok it, chucked the two of 'em in me bag when no one was looking and will decide after a wee dab of both.

    Jimmy first.

Yeah, definitely refreshing. I've just about outgrown mixers with whiskey nowadays, if adding anything, it's just water.

Fok it, might as well do a bit of a tasting.

Was actually going down to pick up a new Fiddy 12 yr old, but saw it, and the last 3 or 4 times I've bought scotch I've bought that so fancied something different. Time for the black.

Much smoother than the Jimmy, more peaty and slightly smokey, compared to the Jimmy that was a bit sweeter, and had more flavour too it.

Black: Smoother, peatier, duller. Jimmy: Sweeter with hints of honey. More flavour.

    Crude maltiness, but drinkable.

    Anyone else had this?

Well Thanks Dil, I am not sure about educate but definitely put some of those nasty rumors about Tequila being crap to bed.

Tequila has become quite complex. I wholeheartedly agree though that years ago, during my Los Angeles college days where a group of us would go to Ensenada or Rosarito for drunken adventures with Senoritas on the weekends, the Tequila was terrible rot gut. Lord some of it you could barely stomach with a 25lb salt lick and a half a gallon of lime juice, however nowadays it is extremely good and many of the better distillers finish their Reposada's and Anejo's in Sherry casks or Oak casks and man are they a true delight to sip ( I have a Herradura that was finished for a year and a half in a Scotch cask). Some I can easily compare to a 21 year Scotch or a good 10 year bourbon. That said, with any good spirit, you get what you pay for.

I agree 100% Dil, the Tequila that is imported here is the cheap crap that they sell for $6 a bottle in the states and even the homeless bums won't drink it.....

Man that was certainly a drink from yesteryear. I have not heard that drink ordered in probably 20 years (or more). Nowadays you can have a GREAT margarita with a splash of Contreau or Gran Marnier. Of course you wont find that here in Thailand. You will get Jose Cuervo gold or Hornitos......

...the menu at La Monita claims their silver margaritas are made with Cointreau...whatever: they are delicious and improve by the glass...

You need to get out more JP, mostly everything can be found here for a price, in that Bourbon Street someone told me their tequilas are the 200usd varieties. Hopefully someone can get a pic of the brands in there.

And Cointreau and Grand Marnier I'm pretty sure will be easily found in a Tops, Villamarket or a Central supermarket chain.
