Nice rainy day, so cracked open a new bottle of Rye

This Rye is pretty stout and has a long taste at 110 proof. First time trying it. Great nose and you can really taste the rye and caramel notes.

^ A bit sexist, that mate, in this day and age.

I spoilt myself on beers, lagers, ciders, IPAs, real ales, passable wines, you name it in the UK.

So time to get back down to earth with some goat piss!

It's a tolerable drink. and when in Thailand not my first choice I usually drink San MIG light but Leo will do if there's nothing else.

Even the dogs are turning their noses up at it.

My second dog loved half a mild supped from an ash tray under the local pub table.

Tbf he was a right piss head

Primo pink bubbles to launch my first train set in 45 years

The nazi's had armoured trains plowing along the tracks of eastern europe for their supply lines in 1942

    What are you drinking today?-20240807_213555-jpg

Shivver's me timbers with memories of my OO Flying Scotsman. The detailing is better on the model than the train-set but I am itching to turn on the non-existent power and get it rolling along the track.

I had a few hours to kill on Tuesday after arriving in Stavanger early afternoon, and not due to join the vessel until the following morning.

When I caught up with an old work colleague in Great Yarmouth a few weeks ago he gave me this little purse thing, saying that he wouldn't need it as he'd never be going back to Norway. I opened it up... result!

That's about 22 quid in real money, for some unfathomable reason the Norwegian Krone is doing worse than Sterling at the moment.

I also had a 100 NOK voucher from the Stavanger Airport Scandic Hotel.

I used to regularly work onshore in Norway and was at the top level of the Scandic Hotels loyalty programme... when they gave me a 150 NOK voucher every day I stayed. Thanks to Brexit, that work ended and I'm now gradually sliding down the loyalty tiers and only get 100 NOK per day... thanks Brexit, another 50 NOK a day cost to add to everything else.

But anyway, this voucher needed spending. The company encourages people to use the vouchers on food but it makes more sense to me to use them for alcohol and put food on expenses, and there's no point in taking NOK back to Thailand...

I thoroughly enjoyed this Kronenbourg Blanc. I have no idea what the flavour is but it's very nice. I had a few at the bar... and at 163 NOK (12 quid) each, my voucher and cash lasted less than half an hour.

I picked up some dinner to take back to my room... at another 257 NOK... yes, 19 quid for a stale salad, a panini thing and a bag of crisps. No wonder Norwegians constantly look unhappy.

I also took another Kronenbourg Blanc back to my room to have with dinner... there's a chopper flying in over my pint, bringing home a crew of workers after finishing their offshore trip.

Nice view... Lufthansa ain't all bad.

As Victor Kiam would say, 'I enjoyed the pint so much, I kept the glass!'

I don't want to become predictable so to keep it fresh I have changed up my straight flute for a traditional curved one.

The MiG-23 Flogger was a variable sweep fighter bomber that began production when I was in nappies.

Russia still has hundreds in reserve although they are moth-balled and have not been used in Ukraine.

This one looks a bit drab in its matt paint but I can szhoozh it up a bit with a silk varnish spray coating.

The Mitsubishi Ki-21 twin engine heavy bomber and the Kawasaki Ki-45 twin engine medium bomber were both used to bomb Australia during the war although the brown Betty light bomber above was more common in this role.

I am not sure what is more impressive, the miniature canopy paintwork on the nip bombers or Svetlana's paintwork on her nails

JS-2M was a Chinese variant of the Soviet IS-2 Heavy Tank. The heavy tanks became obsolete in the advent of the more mobile Main Battle Tank concept

The famous Russian IS-2 is actually a mis-romanisation of JS-2 since the tank was named after Joseph Stalin when it first rolled onto the battlefield in 1944.

After all the jet-engine fuelled fun over the weekend I had to dig out an RAAF classic for the counter top. Amazing to think that it is almost 70 years since the first flight of the Dassault Mirage
