This Shepherd Neame 1698 Kentish Strong Ale was a belter

    What are you drinking today?-20231003_214026-jpg

I was expecting a musty earthy English ale from the demeanour of the bottle but was instead regaled with the kind of bubble-gum aroma that I love from some wheat beers mixed with rich caramels.

Defo going back on the buy list.

Funny long story here. So I really liked the Full Moon Han Za IPA. They recently released the Suua Bai IPA which is really good. Unfortunately the brewhouse is in Phuket so getting craft beers this way is a stretch. So I sent an email out to customer service asking about the Han Za. I left my phone number and the Manager called me and we had a nice chat. I told him where I was from and that I really enjoy craft beer. I asked about the Han Za and he said that they will not bottle any more. It was a seasonal release and they want to try other craft styles. He did say however he had 5 cases left in the warehouse but unfortunately they cannot sell any to general public, I need to be a distributor. I appreciated the call and hung up. About an hour later he called me back and said he would set up an account for me and ship to Lampang. I said "excellent" . Now being I like the Suua Bai IPA i asked about that and he said no Problem, but they have a 3 case minimum. I said OK..

Guess I am a distributor. I got a heavy discounted price which was nice. I got 5 cases of Han Za. A very nice citrus hopped IPA with an ABV of 6.7% and the newly released Suua Bai Thai Tea IPA which is 6.7% ABV.

Who can complain about a full fridge...right?

Wish I could DW. I offered a mix of 12 of each to my wife's cousin for all the things he has done with and for us and he said he prefers Lao Khao. Couldn't help but laugh a bit.

Based on the date stamps on each case, I have almost a year to drink it all, shouldn't be a problem.

    Sounds like an intriguing brew.

After warming up with the 6.5% Kentish Strong Ale I felt ready to face this cheeky Belgian Duvel at 8.5%

I was getting hints of spices and ginger with an orange peel nose over the no-naked-flames fumes.

Fukin MInkies, besides watching enough of you falling down coz you can't handle real cider, it turns our you can't handle continental pishh too. We used to do pints of stella with a 1/3 barley wine and when it got late near closing time the tequila shots would go in. I reckon Dill would have lasted til 9.30pm on a 5.30 Natch start

5 or 6 pints of dry is the only booze I've know to consistently induce rubber legs on the uninitiated once they hit fresh air. I'd love to Snub on a gallon jug.

As a 14 year old getting a gallon jar of wacky ( medium rough) from the take away hatch at 36p a pint and 3 of us trying to finish it in the park. 7pm we bought it and we woke up at 11.30 with not half gone and two of us puked before leaving what's left and going home. The offy hatch was visited quite a few times before 16 yo and going into the pub and ordering over the bar.

As a drink it remains the only drink that has caused me to collapse when I've walked out the pub. You learn ....... eventually.

I had to knock the hang glider on the head when it reduced my capacity to remember and retain my bodily functions, blackouts were commonplace.

Driving on that stuff was a buzz though, surprised I'm still here to tell the tale.

    "Snakebite and black guvnor!!!"

It got banned in most pubs I frequented because of the sheer aggravation and trouble it caused.

Usually I don't drink beer during the week, but it was World Teachers' Day yesterday, so a couple of coldies up on the roof. Slept like crap, rather glad it is Friday.

So I gotta ask you Brit guys, on your Ciders, don't you feel like you are in a sugar coma after drinking a few of them, let alone 5 or 6?

I have tried a few here just out of odd curiosity. I know like anything, some bevys are an acquired taste but after one I felt like I was full of sugar.

Us Americans don't drink it and only a few major liquor stores even sell it. I will stick to my IPAs and Bourbons as I suspect Snubs will.

The natch cider sold at Richard's , Thatcher's and pubs in the Mendips has no relation to the sugary fizzy pasteurized piss sold in cans or here, used to ge a gallon every Saturday morning FROM WILKIN'S AT MUDGELEY OR at Sandford in Mendy country when based at Lulsgate Airprot nearby. I agree shocking disorientation .

Some of the biggest cider abusers I met were in nearby Bath where crusty dishevelled dress was tolerated long before it became national costume, shirts hanging out etc

Similar proper cider without gas is sold in Normandy, Asturias Spain and Austria to my knowlege
