Today, I'm on the IPAs again. Thought I'd grab a can of the Korean stuff to see if it's any good for next time, and it's ok.

I'm making two litres of plonk from my current favourite juice...

15 x 275ml bottles of Becks in Sainsbury's for £7. If you're in the UK get involved. If you're somewhere else, fuck off back to your daiquiri and stay out of my face.

I picked up the Strongbow from Villa Market in Bangkok last week. Thought I'd start with that for some kind of benchmark.

The remaining trio of ciders were all sourced at The Mall in Korat yesterday. Magners is a known quantity... but Moose and Somersby appear to be brewed in Thailand and I don't really know what to expect.

Yogi has taken to watching me drink my evening tipple... it's nice to have company!

Eeny, meeny, miny, moe...

I've always avoided the Moose and Somersby simply because they are made in Thailand. Let us know what you think of them.

I should imagine that all 4 are ok with Magners being the best.

But, what would be the appropriate snack to eat with them? Considering location, maybe some fried locusts?

I disagree, they are the equivalent of drink fosters, just mass produced gassy shite - sorry, they'll have to be ice cold but i suppose thats the point

I used to go The Mall when I lived in Korat for work. Then came the Terminal 21 and Foodland. Seldom bought much at The Mall but they do have the reasonably well stocked liquor store right as you walk into the grocery store. FoodLand is pretty weak. They had just started the Central Plaza as I moved and have no idea what kind of Western type food and liquor stores. I thought it was amazing they would put 3 huge malls all within what 3 to 5km of each other selling the same stuff for the most part.

Off topic a bit, I liked living in Korat Mendip. Great motorcycle riding to be had to Wang Nam Khieo past the nice lake up to Khao Yai then back down to the city. Lots of nice restaurants and the Go Kart racing track along the way. They tried opening up the airport again as I was moving but heard it failed...again. Only real downside is you either leave by car, bus or train. I did them all. Driving is still the best. The elevated toll road to BKK was being built and that hopefully will help with traffic. The drive to BKK always sucked ass and the traffic over Songkran holiday was utterly whack.

Enjoy the Ciders. I killed half that bottle of whisky last night (maybe a bit more). Taking a night off......well for now. Its early. 5:42pm. lots can change

^^^ Wish I'd thought of that... just remembered I've still got some proper Cheddar cheese in the fridge... may have to speak nicely to the wife, or maybe use your other suggestion of offering sexual favours??!

Anyway, first up... Moose Apple Cider, brewed in Thailand.

The label amusingly states that it 'Contains no Moose', and I was all ready to come out with the obvious jokes about maybe no moose, but plenty of moose piss... etc etc

But, to be honest it was OK. Nothing remarkable but I've had a lot worse. I would dispute the promised 5% alcohol on the label however.



My main comment would be they need someone new to write the 'amusing' comments on the label.



Next up, Sommersby. In the name of fairness I'm cleansing the palette with a Hong Thong between ciders.

Unusually, the cupboard (or at least the fridges) are pretty much bare today. Can't be assed going out for replenishment, so decided to do some damage to some Castle Creek white wine that's been taking up too much fridge space. Other than its alcohol content, not much to recommend it.

Looks like a nice place to have a drink.

Somersby...

A pleasant surprise. But very sweet and I'd imagine it'd be nice if you were a girl drinking on a hot summer's afternoon. I like something a bit harsher.



To be honest there was nothing wrong with Somersby if you like sweet cider, but for me, the most remarkable thing about it, was that it started raining half way through the drink.

In January!!! The first rain we've had for months... and it lasted about 5 full seconds...

Somersby is definitely a hot summers day drink. Moose is decent enough.

I'm quite fond of a strawberry breezer in an evening..

Without doubt the tastiest of the trio... but still way too sweet for me.



I don't know what's happened... years ago I could get tins of Natch and Strongbow in Makro's in Korat, but now it's an isaan cider desert.

If I had to choose... it'd be Moose if I fancied a few ciders in Thailand, but to be honest I'll stick with the Leo and Hong Thong.

Cider can be saved for overseas visits... roll on December!

It's odd as I lived their 2 years and no new industry growth occurred. It was Seagate and the company I worked for and a few other small ones. Maybe with all the upfront investment it will be a selling point to set up large industrial parks but honestly it's a logistic problem. The trip to port is just do damn far making transportation costs high hence why the big push is down in Chonburi in those huge industrial developments.

Well no break for my liver. Trying a Phuket Beer. Pretty bland.

PAG's outdoor seating area looks really nice.

Mendip's ciders didn't hit the spot - but, at least we all know for next time.

I'm gonna start on some Goose IPA.

I'm going to start on this selection of world beers for starters.
