    Exclamation How many decibels ! ! ! ! !

Last night as a reward ??? For my ice cream deeds earlier in the day I was treated to a night out with the family a huge party I wouldnt even like to guess how many.

You know the kind of thing 2000 bht for the table of 10 plus all you can eat and drink many groups of people dancing ( quite good ) and hundreds of children in groups from just out of nursery to uni students .

Now to accompany all this and make sure we all had a good time there was a live group playing at what can only be described as ear blead noise !

Yes I know I,m an old bastard and all that but Iv,e been to many PROPER groups in the past WHO ,, STONES etc who play loud , but theses bastards ,, we was about 70 yards back from the speakers and the bass notes coming out the speakers were actually thumping us in the chest !

I screamed at the missus 6" from me ,, why,s it so fkn loud !!

She screamed back at me ,,, it,s the Thai way , good fun .

What to permanantly damage young childrens ears ?

Ok then tit carry on .
I'm proud of my 38" waist , also proud I have never done drugs

Having recently attended a similar venue as your good self and judging by village life over the years I have arrived at the conclusion that Thais know only 3 volume
    settings :- Loud. Louder. Loudest.

Look on the bright side, you probably don't need a hearing aid.

The noise issue doesn't seem to bother Thais. They are able to conduct a phone conversation, speak to a couple of friends either side of them, and text something on another phone with the other hand, all at the same time while being audibly assaulted with noise of an incredible volume.

I have given up going to any festival in town as it is too painful for my ears and I'm worried that the bass of the music may affect my cardiac rhythms.

A couple of weeks ago, my friend and I were unloading our bikes from the back of my pick-up in a rural petrol station at 6 am in preparation for our Saturday morning ride. One of those psychedelic tourist buses pulled into the petrol station and the morning serenity was completely destroyed when the doors of the bus opened. The noise coming out of the bus was unbelievable - it hit us with something like a bomb blast effect! The bus disgorged its occupants to do their required duties at the toilets and/or 7-eleven, and music continued at the same volume...

We quickly pedalled off into the distance.

Been to lots of events like this- ALWAYS take ear plugs, the wax ones are the best. I would not even think about going without them, then you have to make sure you are not in line with the speakers.

They held a party next door to my house. The speakers were about 6 foot off my bedroom wall!!!!!. Everything vibrated, but the dog slept though it all, head under a cushion.

Some years ago the gilded one mentioned loud music in a birthday ramble. Nightclubs throughout the fiefdom turned the music down to just above stage whisper noise for a few weeks until people stopped going to nightclubs. Thereafter it was back to normal deafening volume.

Thailand 101 - common sense must never get in the way of superficiality.

    Yep, Thais like loud noise...

Even earplugs don't always drown it out. Too much noise drives me nuts.

Sounds like a fun party though!

If I can sleep on the speakers in Second Hotel, Ulsan for 4 hours straight then I reckon I could probably sleep just about anywhere.

Nigel does seem to be having an 'average' holiday.

Thailand is noise pollution central. Horrible. Asians generally, don't give a fuk about others where noise is concerned, from India to the Philippines.

Yeah and its done me the world of good Betty .

Its been a good learning curve for sure , I never had any illusions about this place or ever will.

There are several farang sponsored places round near here , finished been finished years some never lived in some lived in a very short time , huge piles to some of them on 2 rai plus.

I have been very lucky to have this oppurtunity to mull over my future , ok 5 months off work no money for that period , but thats jack shit to some of the losses I,ve seen.

Never go to Hollywood disco on Rachada, it's so loud I had to write down what I wanted to drink as they could not hear what I was shouting. Stick to outdoor concerts then you can always get a bit away-but we always have to sit at the bloody front!

As I get older I find my noise tolerance is getting lower and lower , I always thought I would like to retire to Thailand one day but now I don't think I could handle that racket everyday . It's things like Thais seem to whisper to each other when they are on opposite sides of the room and yet when they are sat close by they shout at the top of their bloody lungs AROI MAI ? !!! I don't know I haven't even put the spoon in my mouth yet ! But probably not its pigs innards and insects . Had some woman try to sell me a cows placenta in a plastic bag once ? Jump around jump around ,jump up jump up and jump down ,the house of pain song playing over the village loudspeaker system at 4.30am full volume ! I suppose I could tolerate it once the industrial deafness kicks in after years on the building sites but I think Majorca and a Mediterranean diet would suit me better.

I've come to the conclusion that Thais have physically different hearing to farang.

I dj'd for years, set up sound systems for raves for years but when I go to my 6 year olds government school in central Bangkok the volume of everything (from calling assembly to calling kids for busses at home time) hurts my ears. Sadly my daughter feels the same and I might pull her out of an otherwise great school just for that.
