Survey shows that British public is wrong about nearly everything

must be getting fed some nasty misinformation by the daily mail and the likes

brits don't have any sort of handle on social issues

    i like this one

Teen pregnancy is thought to be 25 times higher than the official estimates: 15 per cent of of girls under 16 are thought to become pregnant every year, when official figures say the amount is closer to 0.6 per cent.

The tabloids, so called reality shows like Benefits Street or On Benefits and Proud, Jeremy Kyle, social media, the list just goes on & on. The great British unwashed seem to literally believe anything they're told, without question.

i doubt this is purely a british phenomena

fox news viewers in the states are probably more wrong ...some still think weapons of mass destruction were found in iraq

interesting survey though....especially the massive factors of wrongness

Crime: some 58 per cent of people do not believe crime is falling, when the Crime Survey for England and Wales shows that incidents of crime were 19 per cent lower in 2012 than in 2006/07 and 53 per cent lower than in 1995. Some 51 per cent think violent crime is rising, when it has fallen from almost 2.5 million incidents in 2006/07 to under 2 million in 2012.
There is an interesting book on this by Steven Pinker where he highlights the decline in violence and crime in human society.

The Better Angels of Our Nature: Why Violence Has Declined: Steven Pinker, Arthur Morey: 9781455883110: Amazon.com: Books

I have only dipped into it as I am still reading his earlier book 'How the Mind Works' but even that earlier book covers this a bit. Seems human perception will always be pessemistic about this due to the nature of news reporting and the way memory works.

Then there is confirmation bias, a considerably more powerful tool than I had previously thought (in the right hands). As the internet era has proved, flood the average Jo with information, and they will just select from it to 'confirm' their pre-existing bias. Perhaps the next great leap of the human mind is to differentiate information from Facts.

No, they firmly believe the WMD's were shifted out of the Rak just before 'Stormin' Norman' went in.

I'm sure it was. Just pretty depressing having to live here & listen to it. Gave up debating the issues a long time ago.

Quite true Booners there is no proof in any shape or form that Saddam did not move his WDM's before the shit really hit the fan

Heh...that one is still simmering in the background. Recall how long it took to get the 'goods' on Tricky Dick and that was with a compliant press at the time?

I recently took up fishing again, after a long hiatus. With limited success, thus far.
I wish the angry werkin' class were fish, heck you wouldn't even need bait.
