This Saturday the wife along with all the rest of her family are all carting off bloody miles away to another province to attend one of her cousins weddings ,, by all accounts a huge allday do , they have booked up a complete hotel and resort for around 300 people ,,, a complete and utter charade the like of which I point blank refused to attend.

Why ??

Well the wife phoned the ( lucky ) bride up after her invite to congratulate her etc , only to hear her crying on the phone,

" weve been engaged 2 years because my Mum wanted us engaged as we had been together a long time , and now Mum has organised this wedding because SHE is embarrassed now about the length of time weve been engaged ,, problem is I really dont love him or want to marry with him "

Well thats ok then as long as Mums happy her dear little daughter is seen to be all prim and proper , funny thing is though ( and this bit is well known but NEVER spoken about )
The same Mum happilly accepts payments every month from another of her daughters who,s a bar slut .

I,ll go to the divorce party next year cheers.

See the gents recent post, now he does come across as a bit of a pompous ass, but he speaketh the truth. As you know i have two daughters who I will take back to the west hopefully at the end of the year.
But only because The last time I left NZ was a country with rigid rules, no "give the Cop 500 Bht".

I if you are in the wrong, you accept the punishment for the crime. I have to admit I went astray for a while, (taking short cuts, the "Thai wiggle") and paid the penalty, in the end, courtesy of bent cops, bent employes and a foolish boss.

The employees had my pants down.

My girls go to a catholic school, may not the best in town but it has a reputation for employing proper teachers and will not accept any inducements or back handers.
My wife stuffed up a few years ago and had to go before the head nun, a small misdemeanor when she failed to put the girls name for enrollment for the following year, I knew better than ask if a few baht would sort it out, the look on the old girls face was enough of a disincentive to ask.
There are other schools that take money for better results, not here!

I send them to this school in the belief they will have a properly adjusted moral compass.

Time and time again on Thailand centred message boards we see accounts of behaviour that can be witnessed time and time again in our home countries, and yet it's highlighted as being some sort of indictment of the Thai 'national character'.

Oooh well aren't they the lucky ones ! great work if you can get it . Nannies ? Yes there is an abundance of jobs for them in Thailand. Noodle sellers on 40 grand a month geewizz maybe that's why there's at least 6 noodle-seller's in my village
in deepest issan. I think i'll get the mrs to change from a professionally-trained
hairdresser with her own salon who on a good month can clear about 15 k to slling noodles .....everyone will be happy happy happy.

knowledgeable about how much bar-girls earn. No don't agree with you at all as most girls who are bar-girls don't have very much option.

This is a customer myth IMO. One bar girl my mrs helped get visa for the USA had a degree and a previous good job, but it seemed lying on her back was an easier life. The are PLENTY of jobs going begging in Thailand, but of course they don't pay as much as whores get. Any girl here DOES have options, being a whore is just the easy and lazy way out.

If this is true then how can they have any national pride?

If Thais only have children as an investment then why not just NOT have kids - then they can just put what they would have spent raising a child into a retirement fund and no payback will be required on part of the child.

Nobody in our family is or needs to be a whore, just like the rest of the female population. Also, in a village of over 500 homes only one girls is known to have decided to sell her ass in 'Patters' instead of getting a proper job. She died last year of HIV complications aged 30, not such a good career choice!
