^True enough. Just hope it's not blanded out Hollywood-style.
This is a far superior book to the one below.Originally Posted by NickA

Kmart, have you read Cold Hands? I've not happened upon a copy yet.
I read Welsh's 'Porno' on a flight from NYC to BKK- when we changed planes in Dubai, I forgot it in my seat pocket- during the walk to the gate for the connecting flight (where I was near the back) they left it for me right at the ticket counter with a sign with my name and seat number attached, in a place where everyone was basically compelled to look at it, so a mostly conservative Muslim crowd was very interested to see who would be the one to claim ownership of this:
There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

Yes, Dirk. Reviewed it in the "This week I've mostly been reading.." thread.

My dear old Mum brought me a copy over from the UK.
His newest "Straight White Male" is supposed to be excellent as well. Looking forward to it.
In my opinion, the writing is poor. It is typically Indian verbal diarrhea. Overly constructed, patronizing, inaccurate and boring. I know it's trendy to like such crap, but I'm now reading Frankenstein and before it I read a Martin Amis novel - there was a very noticeable and massive drop in quality reading the Life of Crap...
The film may well have excellent cinematography, I haven't seen it, so I don't know; regardless, this has little to nothing to do with the quality of writing of the novel.
Cycling should be banned!!!
A lot of people profess disappointment with the Life Of Pi book and film.
Perhaps the fat cnuts thought it was about these?:-
^fuk off you bastard! Pork pies... stop it, stop it...
A friend of mine makes and sells pork pies in Songkhla, 100% traditionally made and not mass produced. Weighing in at 170g, 450g, 1.7kg and 2kg. Lovely Betty, you should try them some times.
Has there ever been a movie made about pork pies? Is it anything like the book?
Jurassic park was a good book.

very few redeeming features, virtually no story and badly written
spends a lot of time explaining the obvious and the rest saying not a lot
spends ages explaining what meerkats are like as if no one has seen them millions of times on the telly etc...
to be honest, I thought it might be something mathematicalOriginally Posted by kmart

I just saw the movie. OK. Gotter better after 45 minute mark for me.
Film is loosely based on history book published in late 1920s.
Atlas Shrugged must be high on the list of the most pathetic attempts at conversion from book to screen.
If you want a digital copy
you can get it below in epub
looks interesting though haven't the time/ energy to try and read it myself .
or anyone can send me some email address and i'll post it on as an attachment .

That's the long and short of it, for me. Different media.Originally Posted by November Rain
A well made film can be made of a well written book, without necessarily being entirely faithful to the script. Unfortunately, it's the exception not the rule. I think it is also true to say a better film may be made by not remaining entirely faithful to the script- much of our best literature long predates Hollywood, or was certainly not written with Hollywood directors and their adaptations in mind.
Clockwork Orange- much better film then book, imo.
House of Spirits- both book and film well worth it, and a fairly 'true' adaptation.
The Hobbit- great book, cruddy film.
And of course that Japanese epic "Ran" is King Lear- but it just copied the theme, and had bugger all to do with the script.
'arry Potter series- mutual mediocrity, but not unenjoyable
