    RAF mechanic, India.

He once told me that anything which wasn't nailed down got stolen. He hated anything and everything to do with India after that.

My dad and his younger brother tried to join the RCAF. Pop was told he could not as he had a "war critical" job but my uncle joined. He was the tail gunner on a RCAF Wellington X bomber. Got shot up pretty good but still alive and kicking to this day.

Armored recon squadron troop leader in the fighting dash across Europe. Then, as he spoke French, German and Russian, served as an Intelligence Officer in occupied Germany for a year or two after the war ended. My Mom, who also had good French and German language skills, also served in Intelligence in Berlin after the war.

The old man was born in 1938, so he didn't do much.

When he was old enough though, he signed up and did 22 years.

Spent most of it either in Germany or having a crack at the Mick.

Maybe our uncles knew each other. My uncle moved to Avro Lancaster crew in 1944. He was upper gunner on it.

Dad joined the Royal Marines during WW2. Floated around Asia for a while ducking and diving else I wouldn't be here now. Luckily his unit wasn't called upon during 1944 invasions into Europe (D-Day)

The old fella still kicking around at 89. Very nationalistic my dad, I've tried to cure him of that but he's having none of it.

    His dad was in WW1.

Well if you're going to be that specific... he was in short trousers probably getting into trouble like I did when I were a lad.

I never fancied serving on foreign soil so Liz gave me a job looking after her family in the UK and more importantly of course, protecting her peasants.
