I've used peanut butter, bacon & cheese and the cheese seems to produce more 'product' but the drawback with the sticky plates is they thrash around quite a bit before expiring. Rather annoying if the trap(s) are directly over your master bedroom and it's 2am!

Straight into the garbage can before the dogs can have a go at them.

These unfortunate mice/rats have basically blown out their little hearts attempting to extricate themselves from the glue and by the time I retrieve the tray(s) they've basically gone to rodent heaven.

It should be right on the tip.

Anyway the glue trays are a lot easier to use and I find them very effective.
    Agree with that, Thet...

    Simple, inexpensive, and effective.

Don't need to become terribly involved in unnecessary complexities when scouring out vermin. Allow them to come to you.

Shouldn't say this, as I have 3 pet rats and I feel like a traitor, but the carrot won't work. Mine hate carrot (love cucumber). The cheese thing is supposed to be a myth, but mine love it. They also love meat and toast & peanut butter. But their absolute favourite thing is cooked corn on the cob. Cheap and readily available in LoS.

Yet, they will decompose quickly in the rubbish bin - and foul odors!

Best to throw them on the proverbial fire pile.....a proper cremation.

Small world. I used to have a little cottage in Chesham Bois and would drop my Filipino girlfriend off with my Triumph Daytona at Amersham station so she could get the train into work at Baker Street. Trains from Chesham involved an extra change if I remember correctly. She was a city girl and hated traveling all that way out to the boonies to see me.

I defer to your expert knowledge and will change the bait for some sweetcorn tomorrow. Been very quiet though for a couple of day and I'm pretty sure one of the neighbours cats has been out earning its keep. Heard a terrific wailing from a rat the same night I put the first trap down and cats do patrol that roof area.

I've read that rat trainers use peanut butter, which would have the added advantage of being non-stealable.

I still think you need to send a snake in there. One whiff of snake and the rats leave.

They are library photos. If by 'bait' you mean the female Magpie, it looks OK to me. The food container is meant for that Magpie so she doesn't get hungry...
Sorry Simon, i was referring to the set rat trap.

Sorry Simon, i was referring to the set rat trap.
I reset both traps today with a bit of frankfurter ( what a waste but none of NR's corn to hand ) and as you say, the bait was on the wrong side ( not that I think there is a huge difference ) so I set one in the conventional way. They are both on a hair trigger so blood may flow tonight.

However.............the lady next door let me reset her loose tile today, blocking access to anything large and as we havn't heard anything since the neighbours cat caught some rat or other.............the problem may be sorted and I won't be facing a rat murder rap at the pearly gates.

It wont work because you tried to invent a better mousetrap by bending the plates.
Before you f'd it up, it was a tread plate, the rat steps on the plate to get the bait, thus springing the trap.

My dear Necron....stick to slagging off my cars and fantasy mopeds ....you excell at that.
Had you read my last post you would know that I have reset the trap as the manufacture intended. At least one of them. I bent the plate back originaly because the makers holding bar wasn't long enough. I straightened it out and rebent it today so it would reach as intended. If I catch anything I will send it to cook at your leisure and you can do a cooking thread with it but I reserve the right to find some fault with your culinary technique.

Settle pettle. I do a good bbq rat, bring 'em over.

I remember slagging your car (somewhat) but when did I bag your moped?
And I did admire your whittling skills..
