    Bravery and keeping one's wits!

In a crowded bus! and without the skill to gain total control of the weapon immediately, I'm sorry but IMHO very silly and extremely lucky no one was shot, in contrats to the OP I think the victim lost his wit's and reacted in panic/anger fuelled fear, and failed to take the time to assess and calculate the risks contra the relatively small loss of property.

Anyway nothing wrong with getting scared and reacting on survival instinct, can't really blame people for that, so all things considered - Good Job and great it went well this time for all present nice folk's..... and fvuck the criminal scumbag.

Odd, you must have been watching a different clip - the guy didn't seem panicked in the slightest . . . your wondrous 'taking time to assess and calculate the risks...' sounds simply ridiculous and whiny.

^If you notice, he even had time to slip his phone into his pocket as he got up to tackle him! Seemed calm and calculated enough to me, I don't think I'd have kept as cool a head in the same situation.

So the bandit was just walking through the train looking for someone to rob , gun on full display without any intervention from other passengers?? Very scary.
Good of that big guy to do one! Have to agree that everyone in the area was very lucky not to have been shot deliberately or by the gun going off in the melee. Strewth!

No I don't think so, he reacted instantly grabbing the slide of the pistol (as I see it), he did not take the time to check his surroundings, check for an accomplish (which would have spelled absolute disaster) ect. ect. neither did he assess the grave risks compared to property lost, so unless he was a diamond courier or something, he made an understandable but very dangerous mistake, that thankfully went well due to a lot of luck, and the amateurish actions of the scumbag.

Innocent lives are worth much more than any property, and in this case the risk was to big IMHO, most professionals would have no choice but take that view, and they would probably personally agree with it too.

Imagine your Wife or Child got shot in a situation like this, and the guy only had 5 dollars in his pocket, he would turn from hero to instant ass-hole in most peoples minds, and they would be right too.

The gripping of the slide was great (and one of several correct ways to disarm an armed assailant), but he failed to control where the weapon was pointed after, and to gain full total control of the weapon, and it took way to long to even get the weapon as evident in the people shouting for the assailant to let go several times.

As most people who do work like this for a living knows, you almost always have the time to assess the situation better (very few times you don't, but then you or others are dead anyway), it only takes a few seconds and most often do not jeopardise your chance to attack or intervene.

What you do as the immediate victim - is whine and beg while appearing to comply, that time you then use to assess the risks and your surroundings and formulate a plan of action (only a relatively few seconds is needed), the whining is psychologically proven to invariably steal a small part of the assailants attention and make him feel on top lowering his guard, then if you do decide to attack you do it mid sentence, much harder to do than you think and needs to be practised.

As far as your wonderous ridicolous and whiny goes- well

It takes much more conscious effort, courage and wits to react calmly, coolly and patiently, than to react in instant knee-jerk explosions.

    Anyway carry on

I have found that pissing your pants is the most effictive method of distracting their attention.

shitting yourself was tried but because of the time before it is noticed it was discarded as the preferred method , so urinating in your pants is best - if you can create a pool of urine at your feet you will find the assailant is very distracted and trying not to step in your pee - this is the time when you bite their throat out,
If you torture data for enough time , you can get it to say what you want.

The guy was completely out of his element. Watching the clip I had to cringe when the guy reached out and grabbed the guy's HAND not even trying to control the weapon. Then reaching behind and POCKETING his phone during the struggle? Who the fuck did he think he was???? Super-fucking-man??

Did anyone notice the CHILD to the assholes right? When the gun was pushed aside, had the assailant pulled the trigger, even unintentionally there is one child less and one 19 year-old kid with a murder rap.

Gotta go with Larvid on this one... Shame so many think this guy is Mr. Wonderful. He was rash, and unprepared. I think he took needless risks with the lives of others.
