    Collapse tomorrow? ?

I read on Aljahzerra that the Thai government opposition is set to walk out tomorrow ( Monday )

Presumably this will bring the immediate collapse of the government.

    What next?

I'm thinking it ain't gonna be pretty, I guess tonight the government is Manning up all strategic points around the Country.

    It's an interesting question, Nige.

Just because the opposition walk out of politics, why should the government collapse? Why not just have elections for the seats that the dems have given up?

I suppose the country was going too well, and the govt enjoying too much popularity- don't want that, do we. I see no reason at all for the government to fall, although elections may well be called. But TIT.

Elections..... No need to waste the money on those.....

[ABSURD] Let's have a peoples committee government appointed by a leading upright citizen..... Say.... Suthep..... He springs to mind.

They could run it....... Most people are too stupid to vote anyway.....[/ABSURD]

indeed, a few THB and all the peasants will be aligned to receive their cash, with false promises thrown into the mix

The dems need to learn how to play the game with the new tyrant and his family,

the problem is they don't want a new tyrant,

Tyrants are always popular, they bring a sense of security and assurance.

So who is actually at the helm of the ship now?

So far the bht has remained the same steady at around 52.5 ish.

I would have thought apart from anything else Thailand is in a very vulnerable position right now

Plotting to overthrow the elected government is treason and terrorism.

Precisely, but the world is watching and it's run by wimps and appeasers, so Yingluck needs to take it real deep to earn credit for holding the high moral ground.

I am converting all my spare cash into gold.

If this government falls the Baht will tank and business will pull out of Thailand at an unprecedented rate. Yingluck's government has done more to combat organized crime in Thailand than Abhisit and Suthep ever imagined....and now those efforts are under threat from some of Thailand's worst elements with enormous financial support.

Right now I could not care less whether Thaksin is Snow White or Beelzebub, that issue is a red herring.

The current rice rate for my BIL is 18,000/T. Nice! May Yingluck grow and prosper....BIL needs a new tractor and has a new son to support...elections are prosperous times in the moo ban, 300 baht a vote, plus 300 baht per visit face time for speeches and rally's. Elections are good for the county and good for the economy...

When do Ferangs start getting a subsidy from Yingluck?

At the commencement of 2556 BE (2013) this government announced a substantial reduction in Personal income Tax rates, but the implementation was delayed due to logistical reasons (Parliamentary approval, printing, etc.). Those reductions will finally take effect this month. Many low-paid Thais will receive a large proportion of this year's tax back in three weeks' time, and some will receive further refunds in January when they submit their annual Return form.

In February there will be a loud THUD as the Democrat party hits the ground.

Ever noticed that this political nonsense happens every year? The only time it has been subdued was during the last big floods.

I suspect that Butterfly has all the answers.

Amazing these masses of people have the time to go to demonstrations day after day. Don't they have jobs, or businesses to attend to? They don't have 28 days of paid holidays as we do, more like nil days. Aljazeera just reported that the opposition doesn't want elections, "we can't win because of corruption". Must be Thai for "we are a minority".

If there is anyone left who seriously thinks the Democrats can form a government after this then just bear the following in mind:

    A) the Democrat power base is in Bangkok and the South. The purpose of the recent march, led by Abhisit, on the US embassy was to get the US to cease trading with Thailand. Given that Thailand's fishing industry relies upon the US market, such a move would have crippled the fishing industry in .... the South.

    B) Bangkok is in the middle of its tourist season. Hotel rooms have emptied out and an industry that has only just recovered from the 2011 floods is being wrecked.

Goodbye, Abhisit & Co., and thanks for all the fish.

The word here in the North is the Blue Shirts were/are paying 800 baht a day to get people to show up. They must surrender their I.D. cards to the Dem. Reps and they must go to all the rally's and follow all instructions.

I don't buy into the 800/da. rumor but they definitely are paying huge sums to many of their supporters. Better than farming wages.

    Exactly, but post-election.

With PT gaining a fresh mandate from the people would you want to be in Abhisit and Suthep's shoes?

Our messenger was offered ThB 700 and I believe is attending over the long weekend. She also supports Thaksin wholeheartedly but ThB 700 is ThB 700.
