How long before cracked ribs heal?
Does strapping really help anything?

Mine, under similar circumstances, took two months. Nothing helped. Sorry!

3 to 6 weeks

Rib injuries (fractured or bruised ribs) - NHS Choices

Healing time depends on how old you are and no strapping doesn't help.
I am talking from experience as an ex-rugby player.
Pain-killer's may help.

Strapping does SFA to help cracked ribs, the Doctor even said it was more for "moral support" than doing anything to relieve the pain. Time and strong pain killers are what it takes I'm sorry to say, and that time passes very slowly. By now you'd know that simple tasks like standing up from a seat, getting out of bed, and bending down put shoes on are all nightmares. You'll turn to religion for help when you sneeze though . Good luck.

You just have to grind it out. Nothing else helps.

Ive had 11 broken ribs , nine in a bike prang 5 years ago.
On x-ray they were clearly broken , in a line about 5 inches out from the spine but alk sitting in place.
A hot nurse in Phuket bkk hospital came in one morning recommending a wide elastic strap to hold things in place , so in my drug induced stupor , and being helpless and smitten by this angelic vision I sat up and let her fit the thing.
A day and night of agony and another x-ray was taken , showing all the ribs displaced and overlapping , and a dark cloud of blood where ribs had punctured the pleura.
. Another week in hospital so they could drain out the blood thru a tube inserted under my arm.
. Beware of greeks bearing gifts , or hot nurses trying to sell u stuff ...

The combination can be messy.

Laughing, sneezing, coughing, moving etc. I found sleeping sitting up helped. I had three cracked ribs from tripping over holding a tube of Glenmorangie on my 40th birthday. Broke the damn bottle too.

Took weeks to heal. The next time i slipped in the snow, two cracked ribs and a hairline fracture in my femur. At christmas time.

Last night my wife found me in the pub, threw a pint over my head, and called me a 'fucking cock'.

Every year she has to go and ruin our wedding anniversary.

What did you fall over- a balcony railing? Must have been a pretty good drop to crack your ribs.

Snap. Pissed, took a shower standing in the bath tub (was staying in a hotel) - feet went one way, the rest of me the other way. My chest landed on the rim of the bath. Ouch.

Funny thing was, I was in Pattaya and I first went to a clinic to get checked. The "Doc" there gave me a shot of penicillin in the arse! WTF????***


Went to one of the hospitals - x-ray and diagnosis and pain killers.


*** On reflection, I suppose that it is what that doc does for everyone. Doc, I have a pain in my arm, chest, leg - nudge nudge wink wink. Righto my lad - penicillin it is......

Was sitting in a chair with wood armrests, went to get up and my leg had fallen asleep.
Fell back into the chair and my hand slipped of the armrest and my bottom rib cracked right onto it....''Wasn't even that pissed.

I hit a dog last year and broke my collarbone and three ribs.
I wanted to die for the first month.
I read one of Slap's threads about the cat shit and collapsed in excrutiating pain...

The moral of this story is-
Stop hitting dogs as they can be bad for your health.

I did two ribs and a collar bone and I too wanted to die.

Could just about sleep when wedged in to a chair surrounded by pillows so I couldn't move.

^ I think I'm going to just drink myself unconscious after a handful of panadol forte tonight.

I had this enormous elastoplast strapping which helped, but when they took it off, fkin ouch! Think waxing only worse.
