So, last night while I was sitting in with the heating full pelt nursing my hangover with a large meat feast pizza and watching the football whilst praying that the evil storm outside wasn't going to cave the windows in, I missed out on all the action.

The "Zhou Hang 2" along with the 11347 dwt tanker "CS Crane" and the 3565 dwt tanker "Bum Jin 5" which all were at an anchorage off Ulsan, were blown ashore in gale force winds in the night of Nov 25, 2013. As conditions worsened, the vessels weighed anchor to move further away from shore. Before the vessels could reach a new anchorage, the winds reached 45 miles per hour and waves rose up to four meters. The vessels were pushed off course and went ashore. The "Zhou Hang 2", which had been at the E-1 anchorage off Ulsan had weighed anchor and tried to move away from shore. It was pushed off course by very strong winds which caused the ship to hit an underwater rock formation about 320 meters from land at around 1:47 a.m. The vessel suffered hull damage as it struck the rock formation. There were no reports of injuries to the total crew of 46 men aboard all three vessels. The South Korean Coast Guard responded and was able to rescue 11 crew off the "CS Crane" which grounded at 2.30 a.m. and the "Bum Jin No. 5" at 3.55 a.m. Weather alerts had been issued by authorities the day before. All the ships were grounded because they were unsuccessful in moving to a new anchorage further out to sea. At the time of the accidents, gusts of wind reached up to 20 meters per second, with waves rising to four meters.

As it happened I couldn't buy anything from the market as I had no time to walk to the cash machine so I just went to the supermarket, picked up a few items and paid by card.

For comparison, I get 80,000 Won ($75) per day to cover meals. All that lot cost me 61,000 Won.

Today I'm gonna walk down to HomePro in search of one of those wee room humidifiers you just pop on top of a bottle of water. That and a chapstick.
It's getting pretty cold here now and the humidity is zero. If I don't get some moisture in me I'm gonna dry up like the fish in the picture. Seems to be affecting everyone.
Will take some pics if there's anything interesting along the way.
I heard somebody creeping around the flat and went to investigate. New guy from Thailand.
So I suggested he come with me and have a look around and he was well up for it. When we started off and I told him is was gonna be about a 20min walk he nearly shit a brick and we flagged a taxi. You can take the boy out of Thailand...
Anyway, turns out Home Plus is closed on Wednesdays but I got my humidifier in a nearby electrical shop.

Very cool thread, Dirk. I lived in Ulsan last year and took many pics of that place from the beach and park across the way. Now I know what goes on in there. :)
Ah, I've been to that mall and the wheel. Don't forget to ride the ferris wheel. It is a good way to see more of the city. I lived forty minutes from Ulsan southbound. I literally lived closer to Busan and barely visited Ulsan since it was boring and not much to do. They do have a few nice beaches and parks though.Quote:

If you haven't already try to find 'O'Taco' restaurant. It is near where you are working by the water. It has great Mexican food and beer.
I've seen the taco place, only a couple of hundred meters from my apartment. Will be sure to check it out as I've heard its good from a few folk now.
I'm just counting the days now for this trip. It's cold and I'm missing my gf, my dog and my bike. (in that order in case she's spying). 12 days home just wasn't enough. Couldn't get too far on my bike and the puppy only 6 weeks old. Got a month off in 2 weeks time so bike runs to Krabi and Samui, xmas, new year, puppy training and hopefully pick up a new car is shaping up to be epic festivities.
I managed to slice open my achilles tendon on a door incident too and although it's not serious it's hurting like a bitch and not getting any better with work boots. Wish I never committed to an extra week for overtime now.

Best of luck, Dirk. Your trip back to Thailand is something to look forward to. I miss a lot of things about Korea, but glad to be back home at the moment. I must go back to putting my Xmas tree up. :)
