Faster Than a Speeding Locomotive (Or Porsche)

If you haven;t heard about this; Chevy took the new, as yet unavailable, Camaro z28 to the 'ring an gave it a shot on the wet track.
Now, Chevy has released a vid of the track-focused Camaro lapping Green Hell in 7:37.47.

While that’s a good way off the Porsche 918 Spyder’s sub-seven time, the Camaro Z/28 remains in good company. The 991 Porsche 911 Carerra S clocked it in 7:37.9, the Lexus LFA in 7:38, the Corvette ZR1 and Ferrari 458 both posted times of 7:38, while the Lamborghini Murcielago, Mercedes SLS AMG, and Ford GT all came in at 7:40.

the porsche, lambo and ferrari will scream round a race track indefinitely.

the american thing might manage a couple of laps before falling to bits or blowing itself up.
like the people who make them, buy them, and drive them. their cars are all mouth and trousers. an extension of their "look at me, listen to me, love me" personality.
american cars are for those who know nothing at all about cars, engineering or class.

the americans have not made a desirable car since the swaggering extravagances of the fifties.

give me a studebaker or a hudson, not a chevrowlay.

I love these indignant Limey nitwit replies.

The Porsche, the Lambo, the Ferrari- are you fucking kidding me? The only way 99% of people are going to enjoy one of them is by watching them being thrashed on Top Gear, when Clarkson will say, 'It's a bargain at a mere 150,000 pounds.'

The Z/28 beats them on the track and street, and will cost about $60,000, well within the reach of a reasonably well-heeled car enthusiast.

If all you can do is shit on this car, you don't know a damned thing about performance automobiles- I'm sure that won't stop you from running your mouth, though.

Sub 7:40 at the Ring and it's 'all mouth and no trousers'.
There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

Yep well stated, 159 in the wet!! Butt puckering stuff! I'd like to see a dry lap time and I think it's a sweet looking ride and awesome sounding too.. By the way next thing is they'll be coming here telling us it's an Aussie Holden chassis and suspension so I'll steal their thunder now, it's still owned, commissioned and engineered by GM engineers regardless of nationality..

The cars you mentioned have some of the shadyest reputations for maintenance cost and mechanical issues.

americans dont have the engineering skills required to produce high end sports cars, all they are capable of doing is squeezing an inefficient 7 litre fuck off engine into a small car, fitting it with european brakes and tyres and copied aerodynamics, sitting some trailer trash meathead in the drivers seat and hoping for the best.

fit a tuk tuk with a seven litre V8 and it will beat a porsche round the ring.

its not engineering, its just cheap and shoddy thuggery on wheels. the american way.

as i said, the americans have no idea, no idea whatsoever, when it comes to designing, engineering and producing cars, be it sports cars, utility vehicles or everyday city cars.

thats why nobody outside of texas wants them, buys them or has any respect for them, and why any american with any sense would buy a european, japanese or even a korean car.

Guess what goes on sale in the UK next year? That's right- GM finally bothered to retool a plant to make right-hand-drive versions (they already sell every left-hand-drive version they make)- a world-class sports car the Limeys will finally be able to afford, instead of having to gush about cars they can only read about in magazines:

Piwanoi, if you think all it takes is a big engine to go sub-7:40 at the ring, you're more clueless than I thought.

Triple US MSRP + an anal probing by customs would be my guess.

world class? you must be joking.

most limeys would not be seen dead in that silly looking car, looks like it was designed, sorry, doodled by kids on the back of a schoolbook.

ooooh look at the strakes, oooooh look at the spoilers, ooooooh give me a break.

most brits would choose a cayman or exige over that exhibitionists barge.

for low rent crims and second division footballers from africa only i'm afraid.

and at 65K pounds, its well into porsche territory. it will also depreciate in value faster than any other car on the road, its for americans and suckers only.

It doesn't just have great looks, but it also has the performance to back it up. It shits on a Cayman, which is the Porsche for people who can't afford a 911 (which it also shits on).

'Exhibitionists barge?' Have you ever seen a Lotus Exige? Talk about spoilers and comic book looks- it's comments like yours that show how clueless you Limeys are about cars in general.

No, this doesn't scream 'attention whore'. I'd be embarrassed to be seen in it.

if you are american, you probably couldnt even fit in it.

the lotus elise, and the exige which was developed from it are quintessential sports cars, beautifully engineered machines with instant response and sublime handling.

they have small efficient engines, they are light in weight, and they dont need such fripperies as power steering, they are drivers cars, they dont pander to the inflated egos of american wannabes who dont feel comfortable unless they are sitting in a disneylandlike glitzmobile grinning like a chimpanzee doing wheelies in the carpark.

7 litre V8s are for meatheads and neanderthals, and the huge depreciation that all american cars suffer from mean that only fools would buy or be seen in them. doubt if they will sell more than a dozen in europe next year.
