I'm staying in the hotel, they're serving good martinis.

Watch out for unexpected sandstorms Betty,last time i was in Libya wind blew up could see more than a few yards.Had a nice little blind wander through the Libyan Desert.
Take your trusty goat out with you if any problems arise ask the goat for advice/directions.

Piece of piss, crap, but piece of piss - once you've done it once and found the lie of the land, it's all pretty straightforward...





RESTAURANTS & BARS
» Al Fanar restaurant at lobby area overlooking garden & swimming pool offering a la carte menu.
» The Castle bar around swimming pool to enjoy the beautifull surrounding. Large screen TV.
» Al Sahara Lounge located besides the main building, a lively place where the evenings are enjoyed with live Arabic music and dancing.
» Poolside snacks and drinks. Buffets and Barbeques are very popular!

Walked for about 1km (pitch dark, road works on both sides, busy road) when I came to an area with no clear path ahead, and I wasn't sure how long that'd go on for... Walked back, got a taxi, watching the route, 80 baht; it's about 4kms. Crap hotel, standard Arab style, crab bar full of smoking Arabs, crap beers: Carlsburg, Amstel and Bud in cans, and Corona - had a few Coronas, not going down well, not enjoying the environment, headphones on listening to Stereo MCs; got a shared taxi back, could see an easier path to walk, 24 baht.

In the bank for next time I fancy a beer; wasn't really up for a session with the locals tonight.

Don't tell Koojo, but I have scoped out the most attractive non-Muslim in town (Polish) and we're going for dinner and a drink tomorrow night, purely platonic, but it will be nice to have decent company. Going to the Golden Tuilip tomorrow (Russian dancers...).

Affectionately known as the 'Golden Toilet' among the local expats, this hotel, despite the slow service, over priced meals and microscopic gym, still manages to draw an afternoon crowd (if you consider 10 people around the pool a crowd, that is). The draw card can only be the fact that this is one of the only two hotels in Nizwa that serves alcohol. There's a couple of obscenely loud 'night clubs' with floor shows too. One is for Arabs. One is for Indians. There's also a Russian sometimes Philippina karaoke/dance performance held in the sports bar.

Thanks, Pats. I had the green curry chicken last time I went to the Golden Tuilip - won't be having it again, but they do a decent fish and chips... Good fish in Oman.

Yes, I agree. I have a friend with a jeep; I'll email her and ask when she's down this way (Nizwa is one of the best areas for exploring; but she is a bit hardcore, doing marathons, camping out in the highest mountains, climbing...) - or just hire a car for a long weekend...

I'm not gonna be boning anybody, I just get a bit bored and pop out from time to time; the sites would be better than the western entertainment, but sometimes you need a beer...
