Sorry, didn't realise it was your home, hope you had insurance and the rats pay up.

Hensen, you have my deepest sympathies, really you do. Please tell us how it happened etc and if we can feel less bad in sympathy because you had insurance.
The 24 cylinder project seems to be relatively untouched in the background there. Is that correct ?

Commiserations to the OP. But thanks for a reminder. - I leave everything plugged in at home. Only ever disconnect stuff when going on vacation..
Hope your insurance sorts this out for you.
Sad to see a great deal of devoted work go up in flames, you have my utmost sympathy Hensen.
Sorry to hear and see that Hensen. That is indeed a real drag, and I also hope you have good insurance so you can get an even better shop.
240 volt 50 Hz wiring always has to be respected. I think I had a thread on TD about two years back of an extension cord our builders unplugged as they said it smelled hot. I plugged it back in and the next day the molded receptacle on the end started to arc and I watched the plasma ball of flame. This was outside so no damage but I let it go a good minute before I unplugged the other end from the outlet. It never tripped the 10 amp circuit breaker and it would definitely have started anything around it on fire.

ratchaburi - please use spellcheck - I hate reading shit with spelling mistakes
Was genuine original Nokia charger, been in the same socket for about 2 years - not always on though. Must have forgotten to switch it off a day or two previously and never thought because I just got a new phone 2 days before that charges off my PC.
No insurance, so it seems, phoned them this morning, but I kept increasing my mortgage and paying it down, increasing again, etc, 4 times, and the last docs I signed, without reading properly - who does - just signed it and posted it back - was written up as " borrower to find own insurance "
So, all out of my pocket.
Bummer. Can you get in a few mates to help clean up ?

Jesus, that looks to have been a mother of a fire. Bad luck mate! Hope insurance pays out...
Keep us posted with pics Hensen, i don't believe we have a re-construction thread running so this might be a first.
Plenty of moral support heading your way sir.
What make is the rather scorched car featured in the photos ? Repairable ?
I guess you can buff a few of your tools on a wire wheel, but I see a few visits to the Sunday flea markets coming up. Not to mention new ones...
Interesting video here...

The problem is that the firemans water has a chemical / acid in it that instantly rusts / corrodes all metals. All tools, jacks, even my kettle instantly rusty.
Holy crap!
As Mr Lick said, moral support on the way for the loss of your splendid workshop. I hope you can get it back up and running again soon.
Decided that the best way to get over this is to make the garage better than it was before. So, thats what I am doing. Electrics and water sorted, but also decided to tile the floor. It was just concrete before, and rather uneven as it was made up of 3 different pads from previous structures. So, give me a couple of weeks and all 92 square metres will be down. Enjoy !!
