More people living abroad - USA remains the most popular destination

    Take that haters!!

More people than ever are living abroad

UNITED NATIONS (AP) — More people around the world than ever are living abroad and the United States remains the most popular destination, according to new U.N. data released Wednesday.
The U.N. Population Division reported that 232 million people, or 3.2 percent of the world's population, were living outside their homeland in 2013 — a significant increase from the 175 million in 2000 and 154 million in 1990.
"Migration broadens the opportunities available to individuals and is a crucial means of broadening access to resources and reducing poverty," Undersecretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs Wu Hongbo said.
Nearly two-thirds of all international migrants live in Europe and Asia, with Europe hosting 72 million and Asia 71 million in 2013, the U.N. report said.
The new estimates found that developed countries in the north are home to 136 million international migrants, compared to 96 million in the developing south.
Between 1990 and 2013, the north gained a larger number of international migrants than the south. But since 2000, the growth in the south has been more rapid than in the north.
Nonetheless, international migration remains highly concentrated, with half of all international migrants living in 10 countries this year.
The United States hosts the largest number, 45.8 million, and it gained the largest number of international migrants between 1990 and 2013 — nearly 23 million which is equal to one million additional migrants per year, the report said.
Russia was second with 11 million international migrants, followed by Germany with 9.8 million, Saudi Arabia with 9.1 million, United Arab Emirates and United Kingdom with 7.8 million, France with 7.4 million, Canada with 7.3 million, and Australia and Spain with 6.5 million, it said.
John Wilmoth, director of the Population Division, said "new sources and destinations of migrants are emerging, and in some cases, countries have become important points of origin, transit and destination simultaneously."
Asia saw the largest increase of international migrants between 2000 and 2013, adding some 20 million migrants, mainly as a result of increasing demand for foreign labor in the oil-producing countries of western Asia and in Southeast Asian countries with rapidly growing economies such as Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand, Wilmoth said.
According to the new data, released ahead of a high-level U.N. event on International Migration and Development on Oct. 3-4, nearly 75 percent of international migrants are of working age, between 20 and 64, and 48 percent are women.

Not surprised the US is the most popular. Nearly every other country has been attacked by them so what safer place to be?

This article is a mess. What does it mean by north and south? Only Australia is in the southern hemisphere, so the border might be 45 degrees north. To the South of it are most of the US, Spain, SA, VAE. The article looks at a rather long time frame between 1990 and 2013, most recently Germany had the largest number of immigrants of all countries, more than a million in 2012. See, Obama's good for something after all, gave away this unloved record. And despite all the waffle and lipservices by conservatives, it's them who increase immigration to Europe. I bet half my dick that the same is going to happen in Australia under the Abbott administration.

America is the same as Australia,

Great place if one is cashed up with a fist full of dollars but not so friggin good if you aint.

Easy as that really, one needs a lot of money these days to live the good life in these countries or one is just surviving.

There is actually net outflow now.

That is why a lot of people in the US are against building a fence. Because eventually all it will be used for is keeping Americans in.

I agree to a degree, They will stop people from leaving USA with out taking about
30% of your assets, and will get much worse as more and more leave.
I would like to know what it cost Jim Roberts, author of A BULL IN CHINA, and other on round world on motorcycle ,Called Investment Biker, Super all of them . later in 4x4 MB coupe which they made just for him. Took millions to Singapore with
him. I am sure he paid but is very street smart so less then most. Obumo has the 30% exit tax now, try getting physical gold or silver out, paper gold isnt worth the paper it is written on today. America was once a great place to grow in, not now.
