Lightbulb You for Coffee ? Baristas for the defence

When I was a lad my grannie had this mysterious bottle.
It had a lad in a kilt outside a bell end tent.It was poured like collis Brownes morphine syrup into a cup with evaporated Milk.

We have come a way since camp coffeee

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Camp_Coffee

My dad had 1950s percolator which made incredibly strong coffe to perk u later he claimed and added a Fernet Branca on particularly crucial mornings

We have come a way since camp coffee.

On arriving in France in 1967 Nescafe and Maxwel house instant caffeine gave way to the steam and sounds of the classic Gaggia.

A cuppo Chinos in Montmarte was more than my budget so it was "un expres" at the bar in Av des Gobelins where I lived in a cupboard for a while, until I got a job ironically for a furniture company moving cupboards.
This came in handy at Copenhage Uni where I also did same and can put in the cabinet on my cv.

The stiff French single shot tho not as stiff as Italy Spain and Portugal.

Off to Bosnia and Turkey where the grounds in the little copper can find the crevices in your teeth but still delicious.Iran awful,Kerala real coffee on the trees and smart set sipping Nescafe ugh!

the Turks say good coffee must be
    Sweet as Love
    Hot as Hell and
    Black as night

Later in Austriai saw the drip filter machine and brought the first one ever seen in Burslem, not realizing I'd need to get filter papers fromLondon in 1970s.Later in Penang I realized any clean sock with a metal handle achieves the same end

Later in SA the Cona and Bialetti double containers, sadly dangerous when allowed to boil dry.

Finally The Bodrum bomb a glass container on sliippery steel you can push until scalding coffee scalds.

So I though tscrew it lash out 129ooo baht like my sister in law for a coffee engine (she had the cafe at C mai arcade)

Then I found a mini plunger jug made of Plastic which has done me great service. In junk shops yu'll find the plungers which can be used in any jug with a lip.

A barista was never a job until Stirfirks etc and Costerlott.
Designing kiwi motifs on foam is fine in the sand pit like counting beads but hardly seems like a career for grown up,hence ideally suited to Rajabhat grads

If we ignore price I think flavour is the key for me in coffe delivery.

All well and good to have comfy chairs aircon wifi and fappachinos with skimmed pigmy but if the coffees crap whats the point?
To be fair real coffe is much easier to get now here andUk,Doi Chang and Black Canyon are acceptable.

Ok I've shot my load and as its Sunday will have a cocktail

    How do you take Coffee

On board ship, when it was really cold i used to drink this made with condensed milk and Pussers rum, certainly worked if you drank enough of it.

For many years in Spain, my first coffee of the day (could be anytime between 7 a.m. and midday) would be a Cortado (small glass with half espresso, half hot milk) with a Magno on the side was always gratefully imbibed.

I actually loved the taste of Camp, with lots of sugar and condensed milk. Camp of course was/is? made with chicory rather than coffee, and popularity was due to the lack of coffee during the war.

Indeed the coratdao carajillo (with a shot for the same price) was my breakfast too when trying to train Castellanos in Northern timekeeping

I got used to the brand Bobadilla 101 a light 36% brandy and a Mono anis or dangerous days driving down to the Ribera from Euzkadi.

Best of all in Bozate Arikun at Uvea (Duck restaurant) is the distellery where Patxaranes is mixed with hallucegenic mushrrom to give that extra kick.Unlicensed beyond Mondragora can be viewed online.
pm for directions,Segundo the Peruvian barman is the full shilling

Our great Oz contrubutor Senor57 will be pleased to learn there is also a good brandy called Terry's

One of the worst coffees I've (often) had was Greek style when I lived on Corfu. I swear it was like mud. The moment you stopped stirring it you got a 2 inch layer of muddy sediment in the bottom of the glass.

Still better than Mellow Birds though.
I would post pictures but life's too short.

Best coffee (expresso) I've had was in Sicily at those little shot shops located everywhere.

"If you drop sugar on the top and it sinks immediately send it back"
is a good test for an expresso. Don't know the test if you don't like sugar though

I use them all the time; they are the best way of making good coffee if you don't have a proper expresso machine, bring out the full flavour

incidentally, the Hilltribe coffees they are producing now are good to very good, and fairly cheap, all pure Arabica

If the machines are producing hilltribes your either pissed or hit the motherlode.

I fear good Dr is referring to the Hillyeti machine.

Of course they do make excessively strong gear as the water passes through the ingredients several times basically a perculator with pressure.

PS My sommelier has just selected Chateau MontClair 2013 a fresh lil aperitif

nope, as with an expresso machine, the boiling water is pushed through the coffee filter into the jug, and there it stays until you pour it

not like a percolator at all

and the coffee is only as strong as the amount you fill the filter (which does not need to be packed)
    I have reported your post

Hmm. Carajillio's were fine, but sipping a smooth Magno along with but separate from a cortado just makes the experience much more agreeable RJ. Any of the brandies of Jerez origin are quality, none more so than '1866', ironically from the distiller of 'cooking' gin, Larios.

Try the elixir coffee that is taken in Ethiopia [the original].

I'd love to buy a coffee machine, but they are so damned expensive.

I use a pushy-downy bodum one and a metal Italian expresso thing you put on the hotplate.

Also, nescafé but use about two tablespoons to be able to get a good kick out if it. And if Patsy doesn't have enough caffeine and nicotine in the morning - Watch Out!!
