Roads alone are not the problem, ignorance a of lack of skills, poor and corrupt enforcment are major contributors.
Although a lack of thought in road layout and planning do contribute
You appear to be saying that you think Thailand has better physical road infrastructure than the UK.Originally Posted by Boon Mee

I don't think that the roads in Thailand are that bad but I fail to see how they compare to the road systems in UK and Oz.
I think route 24 (Ubon to Buriram) must be one of the worst roads in the country, being generally undivided, in many places two lane (one lane each way), heavily used by local and non-local traffic (sugar cane trucks, AA trucks), and suffering from problems caused by heavy usage, poor construction, and minimal maintenance. The way that buses and mini-buses use it is something to make one shudder.
Route 44 (Surat Thani to Krabi) was a pleasant surprise. It had an excellent surface, good signage, and, while not motorway standard, generally avoided local settlements and traffic.
However, I don't understand anyone saying that such roads compare to the general road systems in UK and Oz.

You wanna try driving a HGV on Britains A roads today ,, were talking a vehicle the width of an A road between the white line + the poxy hedge which is never cut back these days , so you meet / pass another going the other way , its hold tight and hope you both get it right 100% otherwise its either side wing mirror folded back and possibly smashed through either side window.
I,m talking about the general quality size width of the Thai A single track roads in comparison to the poxy goat tracks I drive on all week in the UK .
Also there is nowhere near the volume of traffic on the amount of available tarmac in Thailand compared to the UK
I'm proud of my 38" waist , also proud I have never done drugs
Certainly not road design. More like "driver error."Originally Posted by Rural Surin

Start with the most recent events in Egypt, Syria, Lebanon, Libya, Turkey, Iraq, Afghanistan, Thailand, etc.
