    Rare comics anyone ?

Any of you guys kept childhood comics ?
Some are worth a small fortune.

Artist Andrew Vickers made a life size figure from chicken wire and covered it with a pile of old comics he found in a skip.
He has just learnt from comic dealer Steve Eyre the comics were probably worth around £20,000.00 ! One comic used would alone be worth £10,000.00
It was a first edition 1963 The Avengers comic.

    Checking out the attic later.

I have a few of those war story ones. Battle and commando. Must be oldish, as the price is in predecimal money. Would be nice if they were worth summat . I'll check that out.

I've got a load of very early easyrider magazines in consecutive numbers and mint condition going back to about 1975. Might be worth something one day ?

I used to have nearly the whole set from 1 - 100+ and only lacked I think #9 and #11.
Wouldn't have been worth anything much as I took out the Dave Mann centrefolds and stuck them on the walls of my bedroom and work shed.

I sold a lot of mine in 2000 when the comic buying craze was still in a frenzy- I got more than the guides listed for some of them (when not long before 50% of the guide value was the usual buying price)- people were really going nuts for comics in the States for a while- the bottom has pretty much dropped out for many of them, though old Marvel superhero comics and anything from the 1950s and earlier will always be valuable (especially comics from pre-WWII, as many of them were donated for paper drives to support the war effort and few survive).
There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

I had loads of those. It's where I learned to speak fluent German; "Achtung! Schpitfire!" "Gott in Himmel", "Schweinhunder Englunder" etc.

Think me Mam threw them out about the time I discovered pornography.

David Gonzalez a builder and decorator in Hoffman, Minnesota bought a house for $10,100 to fix it up for resale. Behind the walls he found a stash of comics used for insulation. Among them a copy of 'Action Comics No1' which in 1938 introduced to the world Superman.
He managed to tear the back page in a dispute with a relative but the comic still scored a 1.5 (out of 10) in the standard CGC grading system.
It sold for $175,000.00 on June 11th 2013

In November 2011 a near perfect copy sold for $2.16m. That was a copy that in 2000 had been in the collection of the actor Nicolas Cage but was recovered from a storage unit in California.

I have an old collection [kept with one of my daughters] of Zap and Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers underground comics. I believe there is quiet a value put on the original editions.
