That's true. I was shocked when I saw that hi-so behaviour in my Thai lady in Changmai when we'd head through the market each morning. I also noticed the faces on the stall owners there, pissed off they were. I told her off about it once, I think her response initialy was to donate more to the wat in lieu of being polite, but she did become a lot more polite to the phra after a few years.
