Really???? I have not read nor heard about it. We have traveled around lots and stayed in mid priced places and some top notch deals and have never experienced any issues. Sorry to hear about her encounter with bed bugs.
Most the issues that the missus has heard or read about with Thais visiting on extended stays was dry skin issues(almost like psoriasis) and that is more dependent on where you are humidity wise. My GF has only suffered with a few short bouts of dry skin and found a few moisturizers at the store to remedy the issue in a day or so.
Yes, it is a rising problem and the hotel chains are doing their best to keep it all quiet. Check out this webfacto:
How Common are These Rashes?
The National Pest Management Association has stated that prior to the year 2000, as few as 25% of the pest control companies in the United States had encountered an infestation of these nasty bugs. Currently that number has risen to 95%.
At this point in time 76% of the United States pest control professionals think that this bug is the most difficult pest to eradicate.
Interesting read. I guess we have been extremely lucky based on the stats. I would have to guess that it would boil down to hotel chain and their cleanliness protocol. So many hotel chains "lie" about linen change to save cost. For us I know we always bring our own towels and she always insists on "sleeping above the sheets".
I know I would never stay in a Motel 6,Days inn or a Mom and Pop place. I will spend a few extra bucks to stay in a Marriott. While you can only assume they properly clean their bedding, one will never know especially in low cost hotels and motels.
Hope her recovery has been fast
