It's not exactly an ugly house but alot of ugly things go on inside...

The problem is that nobody needs "building permission" in this country so their imagination is only curtailed by their wallet. Hence the excessive amount of ugly buildings.
^The top one looks okay, needs a coat of paint or varnish. I'd buy it.
agreed. the bottom one is a disaster area
I think dr a is pulling hens teeth with this thread as I and I'm sure a lot of the others on here can attest to the horrors of the building capablities of Thais as a whole. Unless you can find one that is in the first place honest and then in the second place, capable of building anything that is square, then you are indeed very lucky. I have yet to meet any builder, plumber or (I must laugh) electrician, that could do a proper job. The only reason some of my house was done properly is because I was there STOPPING them from doing it the THAI way. It's not that they are Thai, it's just the way they have learned how to do things. They will cut corners and costs even when it means the job will not be done the correct or even SAFE way. I don't mean their safety, but mine.
How many BIG buildings (even hospitals) that have been built in this country without ground wires? How many people must die before these twats get prosecuted?
A challenge for you dr a, give all of us here a list of "good honest builders" that can do buiding construction that is not only safe but of good quality and they haven't ripped you off in the process.
To me it's like their mentality towards corruption, it's always been there and always will be. Sad, truely sad. I must say that there must be a few good builders but I've never met them.
The guys I had were honest and doing a good job, just a bit unreliable and limited in scope and imagination.
But then, for 150-200bt /day, I don't push people.;)
I share your sentiments about electricians - I ended up doing this, as well as the painting, myself.
My builder was fine, but he is a local man as are all his staff - they go home for their lunch.
He sub contracted welding, tiling, electrics, plumbing and painting. I was less than thrilled with the welders ( I don't believe anyone can weld properly wearing sunglasses) but the electrician was great.
I endorse what Stroller has said, for the money being paid you cannot expect people to work like maniacs and the cheap wages do not encourage efficiency.
I hired Chuck Norris. One look at the building material and the house built itself.
