Australians, we're a gay bunch of fellows.

Australia is the world's happiest nation based on criteria including income, jobs, housing and health, according to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development.
Australia kept the top spot for the third straight year, leading Sweden and Canada, the Paris-based group's Better Life Index showed, when each of 11 categories surveyed in 36 nations is given equal weight.

Have to wonder about some of these surveys and how they get reported.
Frist of all the survey was about well being not happiness.
Some of the criteria are debatable. Participation in democracy [ voting ] well it;s compulsory, bound to get more people voting than voluntary countries. Working week, sure I read another survey that had OZ as one of the longest working weeks, much of it in the form of unpaid over time.

If you ask the right questions you get the right answers. When I went back last year, didn't see a lot of happy smiling people dancing in the streets. The people in my village are happy smiling and sometimes dancing in the streets. May be well down the list on the well being side though. Jim

I quite liked it when I was there, and the locals must've liked it too because they were always telling me it's the best country in the world.

Has to be the best country in the world, the Government and newspapers say so.
Had a friend, Government employee tell me, there is no where in the world like OZ, no other country gives you money if you haven't got a job.

Had a girl visit me from Oz when I was living in Birmingham, she said you are doing all right, you have your on toilet. She honestly believed 4 houses shared one toilet.
Aussies that never travel are as thick as the yanks that never travel, they just believe what is told, said or written in the papers.

There is no good or bad country to live, there are just good and bad places to live in that country. Be poor and there are no good countries, be rich and I doubt there are bad countries to live. Jim

Am I the only one who thought this thread was about ....?

While all stats are questionable .( near enough is good enough!)....tend to agree that Australia is a great place to live but like so many places it depends on your circumstances to great degree..high quality of life, great climate, great environment great pies and beer. Mostly a positive and very resilient Nation.
Sure there are some unhappy faces around but that is what happens when you are on the avarice treadmill. Ever observed a Brit bus queue?

Interesting that Thailand among others is not on the OECD Better life Index..wonder what the criteria is..maybe I will email 'em? Some interesting stuff on their website worth exploring/reading though.

Some dickhead ghay fl footballer had a cry because a 13yo girl called him an ape. People get called gallahs, monkeys, baboon, pigs, dogs etc and it's got nothing to do with race. The dumb khunt has a beard and looks like an ape with hair on his face to a 13yo girl. PC media went nuts with racist garbage. That's how pathetic the country has become.
