    Print a pizza

NASA has granted 125.000$ to a company that is developing food printers. They use powders for carbohydrates and proteins, mix water and oil in to produce a variety of foods. Because everything is dry the powdershave a shelf life of 30 years. That is why NASA is interested. Dry food with long shelf life will enable long duration flights and low food weight with recycled water.

Among the easiest to print would be pizza, they claim, using among others powdered tomato.

Will this find its way into 5 star restaurants?

If you read the article you will see they hope this catches on with the average consumer. Instead of buying food, they just buy containers with powder, attach them to the printer and call up some food program.

If not 5 star restaurants, maybe the average US household?

Powdered food won't catch on. More people are heading towards fresh food.

Actually if you go through the linked data there is the statement that the pizza printer is a slightly modified chocolate bar printer.

Imagine staggering home from a boozy night out and trying to figure out how to use one of those to make a manwitch.
