Now after 20 odd thousand posts am I one of these geeks, feverishly sitting over my laptop waiting to respond with some witty remark to some "Billy no mates" sitting in his bedsit communicating with an absolute stranger.

Don't get me wrong, I have made many friends by way of this forum and that in itself is worth my time here but I cannot help to think that this macabre form of interactive medium is everything to some people and that is fuking sad.

For me it all comes down to what percentage of your free time you spend on-line. For example, someone who doesn't have much to do in the way of work, and spends 2 hours per day on TD, is being far less sad than someone who works 50 hours a week, but then spends one hour per day of his limited free time in the evening, or weekends on-line.

Like wise, someone who has young kids and works full time, but still spends 2 hours in the evening on-line, is far sadder IMO than a retired person with no kids who spends 4 hours per day on-line.

I think I've just made myself as clear as mud.

Basically, if you're spending valuable and scarce time on-line, when you should be spending it with your family, then I think you have a problem. If you don't have kids, and you have all day every day to kill then where's the harm.

The person with the family may want some solo time away from the family to relax. If the kids and wife are asleep where's the harm? The website is just comedy.

Scarce time is a fallacy. There's 24 hours in a day so unless you have 24 kids and 3 wives there's going to be some free time.

I would never do this yet the mod in question still deemed it appropriate to trash my post which in fact was a response to the member in question who was unjustly having a dig at me.

The real nerds are people who live in a country which speaks their own language offers media in their own language and yet they still sit at a computer all day. Living in Asia, being online is a way to use your native language and discuss things that others wouldn't know about or take interest in. There is a difference.

So people should limit their media intakes to crappy current affairs shows (measuring water content in frozen peas and dodgy mechanics etc) and shitty newspapers with poorly written opinions by journos who love themselves.
