    Getting a tooth pulled

I need to get a back tooth pulled out this year. Never done this before so was wondering what the down time was. Do they need to stitch up the skin afterwards or what?

What's the normal cost for an extraction?

Subject close to my heart at the moment, lost a filling, which now has a big lump under the tooth, lots of pain. Off to the Dentist tomorrow in Det Udon. Think I will be on some pills until the infection has gone.
Anyway don't get the tooth pulled, get a crown or root canal done. Out here around 3,000 for a crown and 5,000 for a root canal. Better to keep your teeth in your mouth than in a jar. Jim

I had one out the other month,no pain,The Dentist just leavers it back and forth, you hear a few cracks and out it comes. It shouldn't take longer than 5 minutes but it will seem like 15.
Cost me 400 Baht ,had a filling at the same time...Total bill was 1000 baht,

My Dentist in Surin wanted 10,000 for a crown and Root canal and it would have been 3 or 4 visits, as it was a back tooth, I said take it out for 400 baht.
If it was a front tooth I would have had it done.

I had one out in a private dentist in Si Chiang Mai some months back, 900bht with a clean.

Ended up in the Dentist at Hospital at Sang Khom a couple of days later getting the hole sowed up.
The Hospital would have been a wiser choice, better job and about half price.

Should have driven up to Ubon or Det Ubon, had 4 crowns last year done. Prices are written on the wall for all to see.
Farang price I guess, like every thing ask around, Jim

Of course it hurts , the frigging anesthetic needle prick hurts a little to start with with,
then if the tooth is stubborn coming out, you jaw muscles might start to ache from having your gob open for a long time .

I had a few backs out , never had one stitched up ,
but if its broken and the dentist is a lazy bastard make sure there are no bits left in before you leave .

A tip waradmiral.....get stocked up with Ibuprofen and whist your in the Chemist get some Clove-Oil.It comes in a small box labelled M.16...Patar75. You get a small bottle of Clove-Oil, some Cotton Wool and some plastic tweezers in the Kit.....Just in case you dislodge the blood-clot in the hole and you get a Dry Socket .

In the unfortunate event of having a tooth embedded in the old chap, how much would a decent dentist charge for an extraction once the knob was laid upon the chair le dentiste?

it is terrible; the dentist may not give you enough anaesthetic as he is used to Thais

then he gets the tooth in his bloody pliers and tries to get it out. He often cannot, so he kneels on your chest and pulls harder

if that doesn't work, he may have to cut it to pieces, then extract each bit seperately, often leaving a bit in there to become an abcess

don't look in the horse's mouth
    I have reported your post

if the dentist was female and it was her tooth, maybe free

You might not miss it now, but should the opposing tooth over erupt, then you will, in the future have problems with that tooth and its neighbour. Discuss with the dentist the probability of over eruption, he/she can tell quite easily by a cursory examination of your occlusion and lateral excursive movements.

If you lose a back molar, then you may find you do more chewing on the other side of the jaw, if those teeth are heavily restored then they may start to suffer the consequences of having to work harder.

The teeth are like a precision gear set meshing together. Lose one cog in the wrong position and the whole shebang can become unbalanced, sending unacceptable loading to a possibly weaker area, necessitating more dental work and expense later on.

If it is a wisdom tooth, then ignore this post, you dont need wisdom teeth.

There is a reason 7/11 give straws and bags with everything.

Teeth should be fucked off into the bag, and straws employed henceforth for the dual employ of supping soup and felching.

Came back from the Dentist a few hours ago. Had one filling, 5 year old had a check and the fluoride thing, 400 Baht all up. Prices still the same, no change from last year. 3,000 Baht for a crown and 5,000 for a root canal and that includes the crown. Prices stuck to the wall.
My nearest neighbor, about 14 km away just happened to be in Det at the same time. When I said been to the Dentist and only 400 Baht, he said why the hell don't you just go the the twice weekly dentist in the local hospital, it's free.
No farangs out this far, so they just treat you as Thais, too much paper work otherwise. Jim

Here is an answer to the part about stitching. They should not have to stitch unless the cut into your gum. And they should only have to do that if it's a wisdom tooth which is difficult to extract.
The blood clot which forms in the socket protects the bone underneath. You should try to not do anything which will dislodge this clot. If you do, the dry socket exposes bone underneath. Bit of a problem then with potential infection.
