How much to buy a car in Thailand?

    Greetings all,

I may well return to live in LOS by the end of the year ...

I was wondering how much a decent car would cost me. When I say decent, I mean not too old - but nothing flash.

A friend told me buying a new car is probably the way to go, as used cars tend to hold their price so much in Thailand.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

    Wally

Depends where you want to live whether you need one. I'd buy a bike if it's a small place.

Depends on type of car, twin cab pickup or sedan, cars are not cheap here. Jim

If you want to be thrifty a Suzuki Swift is the best sub-500k car available in Thailand. Probably a wise choice if you're in Bangkok.

If you're in the sticks, then pickups are a better choice, and as we all know now, there is only one pickup worth looking at.

    Cheers guys..

It looks like I may end up commuting from near Thammasat University to Thonglor on a regular basis. Don't want a pick-up. A small sedan is what I had in mind..

    Prices??

Just googled it, and looks like it would be fine.

    Swift GLX AT - 559,000
    Swift GL AT - 507,000
    Swift GA AT - 469,000
    Swift GL MT - 467,000
    Swift GA MT - 429,000

The GL MT would be the one I would choose, as auto transmissions are for women or old people.

Actually, Nissan has improved the March and the quality appears to be much better. The Brio is still shit IMHO. Best to road trial as many cars in your price range as possible. Stay away from second hand cars since they are almost as much as new.

I suggest buying anything that got Toyota stamped on it. Avoid the rest.

I prefer manuals, however i'd sooner an Auto in Bangkok traffic

Looking at Google Maps, the 508 bus will take you from that university to Thong Lor, or the 503 will get you to the BTS at Siam, if you dont want to look like a raving bender in a Suzuki Swift.

Only jesting, they do look quite nice nowadays those Swifts

Take no notice of Azti, you could always spend a few quid on her and then look like the manager of the salon
