Actually, I was looking forward to a life in Thailand. I had previously found some things difficult to deal with, but tried to overlook them. Upon my latest month's visit, comprised mainly of family and village encounters, the predominating attitudes and behavior that characterize the Thai's functioning, as a group, does not fit my vision of an enjoyable retirement.
I do not want to highjack this thread! If there's any worth discussing my feelings further, I'll need to be encouraged to start another dialog.
Seconded

Goo d selection of people think Teakdoor's regulars are a bit jaded, With a sense of humor. not too many folks trying to prove a point, here or at least taking it too seriously. A wealth of real, down-to-earth knowledge on life in Thailand. We got dye-in-the-wool redneck and some wacked-out hippies (NOT Hippie type now the real deal!) al in the mix.
Reminds me a of a frisco-family get-together back inthe 60's. I like it. At one point or another I have found myself agreeing with damn-near every poster on this board and disagreein' with all of 'em on a point or two.
Most the people here feel genuine. Them's the best kind o' folks.
