Good logic. I did a live aboard back in the 70's in Long Beach on a 32 foot feral cement Ketch. Nice going to Catalina island and back. The boat later was ceased by the D.E.A. and lost to auction.

Seems my bil was making trips to Mexico back then. Glad I didn't get into that one.

You gotta love it or else you're miserable all the time.

    Feral cement

Yes, i think most of those hulls were. Thanfully gonethe way of epoxied strip edged planking, that other wonder material.

Actually, would love a steel hulled boat. Bastards in the cold but great for warmer climes and you sleep better at sea too!

I wish I had the money to move on. I've got too much invested here to simply walk away. I could, but I'd have to start over and I don't choose to do that unless it's necessary.

Interesting, a golf buddy I had years ago here in Phuket had a steel hulled sail boat in the marina he'd brought over from America. He lived aboard for two years and did very little sailing. He got into the social scene and ended up selling his boat.

Like you he also grew weary of Thailand and moved back to Arizona and found a job on a Cruise Line "Love boat," and is happily screwing all the old blue hairs who go on such trips.

I suppose it could be worse, but I don't know how? I think he would have been better off to have stayed here. Option "B" didn't sound like something to make one happy.

I know how you feel Ralph.

I wasnt expecting to be able to sell so quickly, even less expecting the deal that came along. Worth putting whatever it is on the market, someone somewhere may share the dream you had all those years ago.

    greetings from Sardinia......

A couple of months under the bridge now. sat on the boat in Cagliari, Sardinia. A bit pissed on local wine and Mirto.

The old tub needed more love and care to get ready for the year than I'd estimated. Spanish work ethics may have played a part. Plus a couple of trips to the Uk to sort pension stuff.

50 hours from Mallorca to here and the boat's now going as it ought to. first stop Carloforte which is beautiful.

Do I miss Thailand? Not really, and calling SCB to try and sort a transfer from a fixed deposit account, suffering that shite that passes for holding music then talking to a robot stuck with a script makes it even less so.

Everything I liked about Thailand 20 years ago is now available elsewhere either better or cheaper. Posh city living for no money - KL. Great beaches - stick a pin on the map outside Thailand.

Next stop Malta, heading east. Will post some pics when on a proper PC and never really got the hang of Td pic posting - how do I get a pic from I pad posted?

Heading for Turkey/ Greece or the Summer.

Turkey, just south of Bodrum peninsula. Lots of pretty bays, clear water. Anchor or tie up to local restaurant jetty. Eat in the restaurant and get free mooring. Some old ruins near this one.

    Hospital food. Breakfast in Turkey.

Fell over on boat in Bodrum 10 minutes after safely sailing 1500 miles, mostly solo from Mallorca and broke a bone in my spine.

Thought all was Ok after half an hour of lying fecked on deck. Staggered into Bodrum for a beer and passed out after two sips.

Woke up in hospital. Six days on my back. Bit of a bugger that.

    Turkish hospital room.

Not sure what was worse. The pain in my back or six days of staring at this.

Small harbour in south of Paros

My parents joined me in Mykonos and we sailed here via Naxos

Coz they're 80 years old and dont like surprises, I layed out a kedge anchor off bow + main anchor. A quick snorkel before leaving revealed a whole mothers knitting of crossed anchor and groundlines, bundles of old ropes and feckin mayhem.

Spent 90 minutes with scuba gear to recover anchors with lift bags and untangling the mess onb the sea bed. Not fun.

Mum and dad had a glass of wine and thought ir was all lovely
