What is it about veterinary clinics that cause fear in dogs? Stormy is less than two months old and has never been near a vet, but before we even got out of the car, the pup is squirming, not wanting to be held. Inside the waiting room, howling with fear. Do dogs that visit spray fear hormones? Is there a horror vortex created? Do dog ghosts go there to live? I've experienced this with older dogs but not puppies.

At any rate, got him up to date with shots and he had a nice bath. Doc looked him over for skin disease and he got a clean bill of health. 370 baht later we take a very relieved puppy back home. I let him have a few drops of my beer after I was done with it so he had a lot of firsts today.

I think so. Ninja loves going in the car but when we are going to the vets she just knows it before she's even got in. Once at the vets she will get out the car but wont leave it. I have to pick her up and carry her and I swear I can hear the other dogs taking the piss when I walk in.

Stormy has his first kill. Amazing how in one month he has gone from being this cute puppy to something that is a lot more "dog-like". His protective instincts have kicked in and whenever a farmer is nearby he is growling and doing a quiet "boof" to let us know. Turning out to be a good one.

Had to look that up and you are right. Stormy has a lot of red in his color and is developing a black stripe down his back.

Nice looking Pup. Reminds me a bit of my Choco Lab pup as a kid. Of course feet were gigantic. Looked like a clod until she grew into them. We hunted a lot of birds. She even got bit by a rattlesnake and I had to carry her to the car and rush her to the Vet. Great retriever and LOVED the water.

    Enjoy!!!!

Finally got Stormy to stop with the nipping phase. What a pain puppies can be, but he finally figured it out and is turning out to be a good companion. A real water dog, he has added a new dimension to watering the lawn!

Stormy is hardly a puppy any more. Had three guys walk up to the house off the rice fields yesterday when my wife was home alone and Stormy barked and growled until my wife told them to scram. Guess he watched them and growled until they were well out of sight. Seemed he sensed something not quite right with these guys. He is turning out to be one chunky tough dog.

Saw his brother yesterday in the village and what a difference. No shots so that dog now has crusty scabs around its eyes from some sort of disease. Did not look healthy at all. Appreciate the advice here early on to get ahead of things with vaccinations.

Anyone have any advice for stopping dogs from rolling in cow urine? A local farmer free land grazes about ten cows near us and Stormy seems to love that flavor of after shave. Two baths in the last week. Not too keen on the dog curling up at my feet on these cool evenings with that scent wafting through the house.

Yes, Stormy has turned out to be a fine dog.

Has he any dog friends around to play with or does he think he is people?

I think Marmite (the real dog, not me) was the only dog I know who wasn't bothered by the vets. He'd sit on the table and wait patiently for the vet to finish whatever he was doing.

He did have one friend that came by just about every night, but he hasn't showed up for a while. Stormy is fixed and he does indeed think he is people. He's a pretty entertaining dog and very protective.

My dogs are not scared either by vets, rather enjoy to meet new people and other dogs. Except in their territory in and around the home. The big one scares the vets a little, so they always ask that I hold her tight while getting her shots.

The story of Shiver earlier in the thread is heartwarming. We're cruel and indifferent to all other life that shares the planet with us, yet some people do care. I wish they made a difference.

Thanks traveller. He loves to read Teakdoor as well. You should see him laugh at all the conspiracy threads. He asks me to explain humans but I am just at a loss.

For every on there are a hundred more in district. Saving one is a good deed but it's like picking up one piece of litter on a Thai road.

But it makes all the difference in the world to that one...

Never seen this thread, so I didn't know what a lovely dog he was before I read your poisoning thread, Thailaser. Again, sorry it happened to your gorgeous dog
