I think you have managed to grasp the gist of it quite well. Sums about about the first twenty posts in a compact posting !

It does seem moronic when one is outside the thread, and witnesses the obstinacy and immovability of fixed positions.

if a person does not like the opinions of another, they can refute them

they should not need to attack the poster of those opinions; if they are that sort of person they can put the poster on ignore or just go away

first, the thread was about children, and Eggplant took some remarks personally and brought his kids into the argument

he said he had the right to smack his kids, I said he had no right

no nasty references were made about his kids, the victims

Second, the article by Drummond and the local paper was all about Bumboy and his terrifying actions against his wife and her solicitor
