could quite easily be blow out of proportion on this board.

give it a while and you could be accused of beating your child to within an inch of his life.

Shameful self bump after the thread had died on the final straight of a 5 century run. Can't blame the egg-beater for a de-rail as he must have contributed a 100 posts.

Anyway back on topic, I have been practising being more patient with my GFs daughter over the past few days and it is quite rewarding I will admit. She does respond to patient repeated verbal insistence that she behaves correctly so I am glad for the opportunity to have been made to think more about it more through this thread. But I am only a part-time tourist in the role of looking after a kid. I do not hold it against any real parent who occasionally gets frustrated enough with a child to smack them to stop their incorrect behaviour. In my view it is entirely understandable and the role of parenting involves so much sacrifice that the parent can be excused the occasional lapse in resorting to a smack.

I can understand what you mean, but just because a child can't hit back seems to let people be violent towards them

If a child could give as good as you gave, then most people would think twice before hitting them!

and I am glad you can find the benefit in being patient and loving towards a naughty child; usually they are being naughty for some reason, be it tiredness, frustration or anger
    I have reported your post
